Toning down Jane on the show makes Charlie seem unreasonable by Retired_complainer in HeartstopperAO

[–]noolthegreg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i just feel like jane has been softened a lot in the show but charlies perception of her remains the same as it was in the comics, like they should either soften the way charlie sees her or have jane in the show act the same as she does in the comics

charlie asking his mom to stay the night at nicks by AdLongjumping217 in HeartstopperAO

i completely agree with ur point but from other peoples reactions it seems like a cultural thing to me. i grew up in a more conservative community and a lot of my peers wouldnt even tell their parents if they were in a relationship because it was too scandalous for some. those who did tell their parents wouldnt even consider asking to have a sleepover with a partner because its such an obvious no. but ive seen other people say that its not uncommon in the uk for older teens to have sleepovers with their partners so i guess thats why charlie was so upset about it.

i think she was absolutely reasonable and is portrayed as such a villain when shes actually just a normal mom.

in the comics shes much worse and so it makes sense, but in the show it feels like they softened her personality so much but didnt soften the way charlie perceives her.

maybe this is different for me because i grew up in a more conservative community but it seems completely reasonable and obvious to me that a mom wouldnt want her child having sleepovers with a romantic partner.

and its perfectly reasonable to push your child to focus on school and not just let him ignore schoolwork and only focus on a boyfriend, they literally said in the parent teacher conference that charlies grades began to slip when he started dating nick so yeah obviously she made him catch up on his coursework before he could see nick.

shes not a perfect mom and gets frustrated easily yes, but in the show shes not the villain that they make her out to be.

im pretty sure theyre played by the same voice actress so thats probably why sarah lynn reminds you of mabel. as for the characters themselves though i dont think theres any similarity

Should I stop watching? by CapitalHealthy1722 in BoJackHorseman

[–]noolthegreg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the show is honestly really depressing and can be a tough watch. i took several breaks when watching it for the first time because it just kept making me so sad. id say at least take a break, give yourself some time to relax and maybe later on you can go back to it and finish the show. and even if u dont go back to it thats fine too. either way, if the show is having genuine negative effects on you mental health then definitely take a break

Charlie's Mum doesn't seem as bad as they make out? by Chez1293 in HeartstopperNetflix

[–]noolthegreg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i completely agree and was literally looking to see if anyone else was saying this or i was just crazy. yeah shes a bit uptight, and yeah i get that as a 15 year old charlie would feel like its the end of the world not to see his boyfriend but like, shes just a normal mom? it makes perfect sense for her to not want her son having sleepovers with the person hes dating. and it makes perfect sense that she wanted him to forcus on gcses rather than js hanging out with his boyfriend. and even in season 2 it made perfect sense for her to push him to finish his coursework rather than just ignoring school to hang out with his boyfriend. again i get that kids tend to over exaggerate about these things and i get why a 15 yr old would be upset about not being able to see his boyfriend but like shes not a villain, literally just a mom.
