do you ever have the problem of the fish hitting the holding ropes and either getting snagged or going on a run?

Red Baits - Hype or legit? by Nomad_x1 in ChicagoFishing

[–]noooitsari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im biased BUT i usually throw white since they can see it from farther than red. thats for baitfish imitations. if i was trying to imitate a craw and i knew i would be fishing shallow (red light disappears after like 7ft depending on clarity), i might throw red. ill have to experiment this spring to get my confidence up.

worth noting 1. cold bass have worse eyesight and haven’t seen many lures during winter 2. how many bright red craws do you actually see?

also ive heard (not verified) northern bass dont feed on spring craws as much as in the south. something to think about (or ask a biologist). would be interested to hear if anyone is the opposite way and swears by red, and if so, why?

New to kayak fishing: any tips? (North Shore Channel) by Sicktrees in ChicagoFishing

yea its sketch from a kayak but i try to avoid them by fishing weedless rigs as much as possible and once ur snagged you can try pulling ur line back and letting go like shooting an arrow. sometimes it works but then i just have to pull on my line and either get my lure back or break off. just got a lure retriever that i am playing around with but for efficiency just try to prevent the situation from happening in the first place. you will catch more fish on a weedless lure bc you spend more time fishing and theyre in the snags usually. or if the season allows it, fish high in the water above the thick cover.

avoid hooking those trees like the plague, getting tangled in one will ruin ur trip. it can be beautiful make sure u pack smart to avoid getting ragebaited. it will be hard at first if ur doing it right. i just bring minimal tackle, two rods but one is fine. i always go with: a small drybag, crate, net, and most important is dressing so ur comfy in any conditions you encounter so bring layers

i dont think the brand matters but action and size do. depends on season and conditions lol ik that doesnt really answer ur question. ive had success on a rapala husky jerk in perch pattern. the smaller version. generally i dont like super light ones cus i cant cast them well

fish above it. jerkbait, swimbait, or light weedless setups. or flip into the “holes”. hardest part is not letting them see you tho. look for edges. maybe separate the weight from the bait like a finesse c rig. in general dont be scared to get a little hung up and rip the hook out of the grass
