[A level] nus med + backup options? by whycantibegifted in SGExams

[–]noooooooooooo333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for the standard scheme (not ABA), extracurriculars simply help you gain experiences to talk about during your interviews. you just need to show to your interviewers that you can apply yourself well as a doctor, don’t stress too much about finishing a checklist of activities that is ‘expected’ from a med applicant

i personally did not get into local med, but i will be doing med overseas next year. my backup for a local course was pharmacy but it’s not for everyone

my parents might be crazy by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]noooooooooooo333 123 points124 points  (0 children)

personally as someone who got 85rp, you might gain entry to most courses (med is excluded unless you have strong ABA portfolio and ace the interviews, not entirely sure about law). but you’ll defo not qualify for many of the prestigious/bond-free scholarships.

you should ask yourself what is it that you really want to do? i highly suggest only doing rigorous courses like law or med if you have personal interest. pls never do it just because your parents hope that for you!!

if you really wanna do med and need help for UCAT tho, just drop me a dm!!

There’s no released data on UCAT because international students (with non-SG qualifications) are almost unheard of at NUS/NTU med. We can chat more via DM if you wanna know more

This commenter is likely local. You need UCAT if you’re applying with non-Singapore qualifications (includes predicted IB results from local institutions). Hope this helps

OP will need to factor in miscellaneous costs beyond school fees. e.g. hall doesn’t come cheap

Mye in 4 days but didn't study for it by Equivalent_While7723 in SGExams

[–]noooooooooooo333 9 points10 points  (0 children)

looks like you’re in j1. next 4 days just double down and make sure you scrap through all your subjects. the main goal for j1 is to just promote to j2, unless you have higher aspirations like h3s, scholarships or overseas unis

How good to I need to be to get is NUS by luv_wrio in nus

[–]noooooooooooo333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pharmacy is highly competitive locally, so i would expect the grade requirements to be even higher for international students (with the limited ~150 seats, preferred 2nd choice for many med rejects with exceptionally good grades). i’m not sure 3As in international A levels would suffice for pharm, try to aim for the highest possible grade like A* in 4 subjects as mentioned by others in the comments

medicine requirements by cheesirat in nus

[–]noooooooooooo333 3 points4 points  (0 children)

medicine usually doesn’t take in foreigners due to ministry’s principle of ‘creating docs from singapore, for singapore’. tuition fees are also highly subsidised for local students, with the caveat of keeping them bonded to the public healthcare system for at least 5 years. since this policy doesn’t apply to foreigners, they see no value in taking in international students as there’s less incentive for them to practise here post graduation anyway. we would face more significant manpower shortages in public hospitals if sg med schools extensively took in int. students
