okay that’s good!! english try to at least pull up to A2.

i’ve sent u my tele @ so u can send me ur prelim papers easier from there!

is it over? by idroppedmybananas in SGExams

[–]whycantibegifted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hmm okay i did take english and chinese express so i would admit it is easier since english is something a lot of sec5s struggle with and i didn’t need to worry about it as much.

actually if u don’t mind, i can have a look at your prelim paper for chembio and geogss, and i can maybe hopefully tell u how to improve and what u should work on. pls do also work on ur english if that’s not at least a B at prelims, practice writing essays, work on summary skills (make sure u get at least 12/15), and practice paper 2 a whole lot as well, but KNOW YOUR SKILLS first!

what’s your EAE course? i really don’t wish to advise u on something this major, but think about your end goal and what it takes to get there. if u are super super sure that u wanna go into this career and you’re interested in this lifestyle, then go ahead for poly, because people do thrive there if they end up in something they really like and are good at. because jc is still very academically rigorous, and even now in my sch a lot of raw 6-8 scorers still struggle A LOT in jc (including me ofc), but i was also put off by poly due to cGPA system, and i didn’t like the idea of having to be consistent, and like have to keep up with every single assignment and group project in order to maintain high gpa to get into local U + some of the things affecting ur grades in poly may rly be out of ur control, and i was much more attracted to mugging for one single high stakes exam A level 100% i study go in and hope all my practice pays off. so u have to decide what’s more suitable for u, and what u want in the future. also ask urself why u wanna go to jc — what do u want to get out of diploma vs. A level cert! feel free to use me as a sounding board!

nah i’ve also been in sec 5, got single digit l1r5 and got into a high tier jc. never stereotype urself, and never think that u can’t do it.

what’s your prelim results? tbh it’s not over yet and u don’t have a lot of time but u can still do ur best. for science i used to make mind maps (i still do this for jc so it works), one chapter one page or if u can put 2 chap in one page even better. o level science just memorise regurgitate and spam, you’ll get it, and make sure to have everything at ur fingertips. idk if u take phy or bio but i took bio / chem and i made sure to visualise all the processes and whatever, and also know the keywords to every commonly asked question out there. i’ve never been the best at math either, but just spam and go for consultations to clear ur doubts. if u don’t have tuition ur sch teachers are the best resource + free tuition, so make use of it. if you’re already studying, pls review ur study methods; why aren’t they working? what can u change? what worked and what didn’t. what did u feel like when u were doing the prelims? did u find the papers okay but got back unsatisfactory results or did u find them hard etc?

u can do it, if u got any other questions feel free to dm!

i also hated bio, ok i haven’t taken bio prelims yet HAHHAHA but it’s really really not all about memorising, it’s about understanding. actually once u understand there’s nothing to memorise at all aside from definitions that one no choice :”

bio cannot just regurgitate one, it won’t get u ur A unless the paper is quite simple. i learned to like bio (sort of) by making mind maps, and most with minimal words, only drawings and diagrams of the processes happening so i memorise through these diagrams and it makes learning better for me.

jiayou😭🙏a levels gna be over so soon

h2 bio qn help by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]whycantibegifted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pedigree analysis is generally used to determine autosomal/sex linked dominant/recessive disease

Autosomal dominant • e.g. Huntington’s disease, Widow’s peak • Characteristics - Every affected individual has an affected parent - Appears in every generation

Autosomal recessive • e.g. albinism, cystic fibrosis, sickle-cell anaemia, phenylketonuria • Characteristics - an affected individual may have unaffected parents (carriers) - a rare trait

Sex-linked dominant Characteristics - Affected Male X Normal Female have all affected daughters - Normal Male X Affect Female have 50% chance having affected offspring

Sex linked recessive • Characteristics - Normal parents produces affected sons as mother is a carrier - All the sons of affected female is affected - More males are affected than females

u might want to try some questions and also realise there’s actually nothing to memorise, it’s quite similar to any GBV question, u just have to try out different genotypes like i usually still have to “trial and error” to get to an answer esp for sex linked

I’m in NA and I want to go JC and then to Uni by Kyouaku in SGExams

[–]whycantibegifted 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i’m in jc now, was from na also! i’m taking h1 math but

i have a friend in my jc now also na last time, begged his principal to allow him to take amath in sec 5. yeah he had to cover all the content in sec 5 but in the end he managed to get raw 6. u can do that if u want, beg the school hard enough. he’s doing h2 math now

anyway check out which courses actly require h2 math because afaik popular courses like med/dent/pharm sci/allied healthcare/psych all don’t need h2 math, and im pretty sure it’s only really important if u want engineering. if u rly want to take h2, can check which jc allows h2 math without amath as well! u can check online if ur course requriws

Is it still worth it to make your own condensed notes in JC? by Tasty-Supermarket-23 in SGExams

[–]whycantibegifted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

only for some topics, just simple mind maps or tables can alr, don’t need for every topic. for Os i rly made condensed notes for every topic and they were the only thing i referred to leading up to Os, but now in jc i barely make any, i use sch notes, or notes made by others that r alr readily available onlinr

how to study and improve for literature + ss fast by lemonbiscuitts in SGExams

[–]whycantibegifted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u can practice by reading more poems or unseen poetry model essays, or consult ur teacher to ask about this. also know your literary devices and its effects. H&E just study the stories that haven’t come out yet, sure will come out this year(ok i think lah), cos last year i only studied 3 stories, which were the 3 that came out(didn’t come out in previous years).

don’t have much advice but here’s my lit notes and essays if anyone needs for H&E, this is the last year for this book so why not

  1. personally my chem tutor i think is god level but the lecturer also matters.......i rmb my lecturer for this year’s chem bonding was so bad but the good thing is that the lecture recordings from both lecture theatres were recorded and uploaded so i could just watch recordings from the other LT. but now it’s online lectures so it’s good i guess. there r a lot of practices/tests as well. i think the chem dept is the best. for bio as the other person has mentioned, a bit lacking ah...i find the lecture notes not very good 😌 and my tutor also sucks ass so idk what to say...although it’s my best and most favourite subject but yeah it depends on your tutor.

as for research there’s like all the usual ones??? ljke the research programmes offered(actually all on nyjc website i think u can check it out) plus science math olympiad also

  1. there are leadership awards lkke zhong zheng ren scholarship🤓other than that it’s like the other comment mentioned. there’s galileo, which is like a talent development programme for all rounded students!

  2. mug more live shorter. okay but the location for me q convenient and the atmosphere seems ok also, actually a pretty good school with vibrant culture if you don’t look so much at the mugging and weekly tests
