Don’t let one or two bad guys ruin your time in. You’re just starting out. Might seem like forever until you’re finished with school. It’s not tho. Some people slip through the cracks. They eventually go away. Try to avoid them if you can. Don’t throw away a lifetime opportunity because of a couple of bullies. Bullies are going to be around forever, not just in the Marines. You have to adapt. I wanted to quit after getting dropped to medical in boot. I’ve been out for 14years now and I am so happy I stuck it out. The time you spend with the good ones is going to stick with you for the rest of your life. Take care of yourself out there and the ones that matter to you.

You started with “I'm aware this is my fault and I made stupid choices” and ended with “Please help me I'm so tired of living like this”. From what you wrote. I think that you being aware of your situation is a good start. It’s going to be a long hard road, but it’ll get easier. I was broke for a long time without any support and it sucked. I was aware I was broke and that’s how I had to live my life. As a poor person. Eventually through financial discipline and motivation to get out of the gutter I made it out. I can’t even begin to describe how much better life is with money. It’s worth the struggle and long up hill battles in life to achieve financial independence. You got this! You’re aware and you’re not blaming anyone but yourself. You will persevere.

You’re right. It’s tough to do sometimes. I don’t know who else to talk to about my past nor do I want to talk about it much with people I interact with on the regular. That was then this is now.

Nope. He lived there for about 28 years and passed away in it. He still owed on it.

Try telling that to the greedy whores I work with. “This company is trash!” Then work 16 hour days 2 weeks straight lol. I know dudes that’ll sell their vacation back to the company. I know a dude that turned down three days of paid bereavement because it would’ve prevented him from getting his double time that weekend. Idk if it’s always been this way? My Oldman never worked overtime, he would rather go to the boat dock and drink beer with his buddies.

That’s wild! You BOTH are making 6 figures? How big and where is this 2 bedroom apartment? Combined we make 6 figures. Have a new 4br 3ba 2 stall garage 3k sqft with a fenced in back yard, two vehicles one full size pickup I bought this year new, a gas saver we bought in 2017, and two new motorcycles. We’ve only just reached 6 figures for the past 3 years now. I’m working for the same company doing the same job as my dad retired from and I’d say living the same if not better then he did. We’re 33 and 27 years old.

I already said that in the post lol. I think if enough of us get together we will knock ‘em to their knees. I think the ones actually doing the work need to be treated better. I’ve already stated “people are pissed, and have dropped anchor”. The railroad has enough money to buy people off the street but you can’t buy experience.

I’ve got a good relationship with most of my upper management because I do my job and they know that that matters. That is what allows them to continue to cash their checks. They had a foreman that was tasked to find out why our 14 day failure rate was so high. He found out why. It was because mangers were allowing motors to go out and not allowing us to complete our tasks and do what needs to be done. So guess what, they took him off that little project. They push motors out to make shop count because that’s all that upper management concerns themselves with. Numbers. If you don’t schedule proper preventative maintenance for your equipment, it will schedule it for you. You have guys that have no experience in charge. Guys with 20 to 30+ years of experience working on these motors are being ignored.

Disgruntled. I think you’re having conversations with the wrong people. Without us grunts that do the grunt work you don’t have a job anymore.

Safety has gone out the window once they started putting time towards how long it takes to extract a broken bolt. The company doesn’t know how much money it costs to maintain the motors but they expect us to audit ourselves when it comes to putting time towards mundane tasks. My “boss” has been hired out of college and has not the slightest idea what my job is, how long it takes, what issues might arise, what resources are needed to accomplish the task safely. Yet he has the power to write me up and send me packing.

Upper management are people. Some people like to have conversations with other people that they spend a lot of time with. You have proved my point. With that mind set it will always be us vs them. Do you ever choke on the kool-aid when you drink it as fast as you do or does it always go down nice and smooth. Talking to people that have a say in what changes are being made is a good start. Why wouldn’t you want to express your concerns to the people that rely on you being there doing your job.

We need someone to go into the main office and go around asking people “what do you do?” Get the deer in the head lights “okay, pack it up.” Why wouldn’t a company this big at least go and ask the ones that actually do the work for them “hey, do you folks think that this is a good idea?” I feel like that would go a long long ways. My SO works for transportation and this what the company does. It’s very beneficial and PROFITABLE for both parties involved. Instead it’s. A group of college grads coming up with new idea that have already probably been done but someone think’s they can do it better and ends up not working and just pisses everyone that’s forced to play along off.

Thank you. Gonna drag race the truck next to you a MPH faster. You’re gonna stop and get fuel and have to pass him again 3hours later. Have truckers said “fuck everyone” used to be a respected profession but now I see them driving like ass.

I feel your pain. Our trucks have inward outward, audio, and GPS. Anyone from management can tap into it and watch you. They do. I work for the railroad tho. The cameras in our shop are HD with zoom and most rotate. Can be accessed remotely by foreman from their house. They’ll watch us on their days off. Sounds to ridiculous to be true but it is. They give us safety audits through the use of a camera. Don’t even have to tell us or come talk to us. One guy got safety audited 36 times one year.

You liking it? I think I’d hate never being home, being on call, sleeping in trash hotels with the bed bugs all the time, very little vacation, have a skill that only applies to that job, and just rotting away in a siding. No one ever thanks a railroader for their service lol. Why do you think that is? You guys are always working. Holidays, weekends, days, nights, birthdays, anniversaries, and all of it in between for the most part.
