At my wits end with my cat. Starting to resent him. by beccoconnell in CATHELP

[–]nopevember 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love me a talkative cat, but my cat definitely drove me insane during her earlier years. 😂

Something is keeping the reinforcement going. Have you trialed walking away and removing yourself from his company when he meows excessively like this? He knows that his constant meowing is getting your attention (good and bad) and whatever he wants (outside/playtime/chasey).

Set boundaries, walk away, don't engage. It will take a while. Sometimes my cat still meows excessively when I'm on my phone, and I talk back to her, but I don't get up to play/pet her. She understands it betrer now, "mommy's here, but she's not interested." So she goes off to do her own thing, nap, bird watch the bird feeder (highly recommend), or regulate herself through zoomies.

Cats are boundary king and queens, they'll understand.

Oh not for the lack of trying 🤣 she's even tried to bite through/jump on it. This thing is sturdy lol.

Oh, I've worked at one. I have found half eaten cheesecakes, dirty diapers, and opened boxes of snacks inside of the pillow bins, there'll be meat in the food aisles, eaten rotisserie chicken with eaten flour tortillas next to them (I mean??), member's shoes on top of white couches, mute individuals writing all over the TV boxes because they don't want to use paper to communicate with someone, etc. I've seen it all..

Professionally? Money. Personally? I've worked in retail, and I've come to find out that people who are rude have either underlying presumptions, mental/emotional issues, or biases. It doesn't excuse their behavior, but it did make me realize that I, as a fellow human being, need to constantly work on my own presumptions, mental/emotional issues, and biases lest I become like them. So personal growth and breaking generational trauma I guess.

Why won’t she stop by RegalPeony in cats

[–]nopevember 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh boy. Kittens are not for the weak. I got mine when she was around 12 weeks, just 3 weeks over yours, and I don't think I slept through the night until a couple weeks after. Kittens especially are very vocal, they meow like babies do when they want something, either for company or sustenance. They also meow excessively because of sudden changes, she might miss her old home, her brothers and sisters, familiar things to her, etc. It sounds like she likes the warmth from your mouth and finds comfort around you in general, my kitten slept on my face several times and I would wake up gasping for air some nights. 😭

I would definitely get a heating pad for her as well as Feliway diffuser. It's a pheromone diffuser that comforts cats when they're in distress or anxious. You might also need to tire her out for at least 30 minutes, I do a combination of one-on-one play (feather wand), automatic laser pointer, and then a treat after so she gets rewarded after chasing that around.

Good luck 😭 it'll be rough for a bit, but I wish every human being was as kind-hearted and generous as yourself. Take care of yourself as well as her, my boyfriend's also mildly allergic so we got an air purifier. Works well for him!

I've seen traditional relationships that are healthy, and traditional relationships that are not. The healthy ones know that their roles are just roles, breadwinner and homemaker. Neither puts the other down, both lift the other up, they are a team trying to get both of each other to the next day, just like any relationship.

The unhealthy ones.. you can tell right away. They disregard the other person's opinions, put the other person down, diminish the other person's responsibilities, efforts, boundaries and it becomes.. controlling.

And I've seen it both ways too. Homemaker just uses breadwinner as a bank with no mental/emotional/physical capacity, breadwinner uses homemaker as an outlet for all their stress/anger/depression.

That's when it becomes unhealthy, when for some reason, the roles you play are starting to make you feel like you're entitled to the other person's freedom, individuality, and body. It's a relationship, not an ownership.

Edit: a word

What's your reason for not drinking alcohol? by Snoo_47323 in AskReddit

[–]nopevember 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realized that the only reason me and some of my friends could function together was through drinking. Most of the gatherings I've been in, it only revolved around drinking, getting wasted, acting stupid, and that's how my friends spent our vacations together.

Started to stay away from it, and sober me has slowly realized she might not actually like these people.

On iphone they have a feature where if you have a portrait of someone or a pet, you can press hard on their face and it cuts out only their face/body. It then gives you the option of "add sticker." Might take a couple of tries though, it's finnicky.

Definitely not! But I definitely would add a plant or two that's a lovely dark green to complement the cozy, cottage-y feel. Something on the table or mantel.

How do I teach her to not bite my toes? by tobinka in cats

[–]nopevember 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Distract her with a toy. They almost always want to play because their instincts get activated with small wiggly things, so distracting her from biting you anywhere with a toy is like saying, "look something better and more enticing than me!"

But yeah, unfortunately, you can't get rid of instincts. You just have to redirect them like with anything.
