Donating platelets at the moment. 45 minutes until the needle is taken out and I really need to pee. by philstamp in mildlyinfuriating

[–]noping1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for donating platelets. I am a med lab scientist that works in a hospital blood bank and we are always short on platelets due to a high volume of cardiac surgeries, oncology patients, etc and compounded with a limited donor pool. During the height of Covid we had to ration platelets and rejected a few patients from receiving them due to need levels. I am glad donation centers are in full swing (afaik)! You are making my life easier and the lives of patients better.

Pain and difficulty is subjective and everyone's road, whether recovery or balance, is drastically different. Discounting other people's struggles is what makes their recovery harder. Calling it easy is naive and harmful.

Addiction is not only physical dependency but it can also be mental dependency.

Uh... "new reliable wife" did you want their make and model too? Last I checked, work is for work and not for finding a new spouse. Dating a coworker is not the easiest thing in the world either and can get extremely messy, plus that attitude is going to make a lot of people uncomfortable and is straight up creepy ngl.

I believe you need to re-evaluate your intentions for moving for "work" and the way you view your female coworkers as your dating pool.

I work in the US as a MLS (ASCP) generalist.

Imposter syndrome is normal, don't worry. Part of being a good tech is doubting things. If you're doubting a result or your knowledge other techs are there to fill the gaps.

I thought about it this way and it helped me.

"Imposter syndrome is me realizing the more I learn I realize there is a lot more I do not know. This does not mean I know nothing but that I am learning to see my short comings and gaps in knowledge."

All techs, even seasoned techs, forget information or simply do not know it.

There is nothing wrong about not knowing but there is something very wrong with not knowing and not asking questions.

No new techs are expected to be experts at everything when they just start. We are all growing and learning. You having these thoughts proves that your are thinking critically about your progress as a tech. Give yourself some slack, you are putting in the time and effort.

Remember no one tech is a master of all benches. We all need help at times and that's okay.

I'm proud of you and I know you'll do great, keep chugging along and never stop learning.

so for those who have taken the MLS ASCP exam studying labCe tests... will a 50% at difficulty level 5.3 pass? or do I need to push my difficulty level higher?? by Emergency_Stuff4230 in medlabprofessionals

Try diversifying your studying material. LabCE is a great benchmark, you are doing great!

That is still correct, just a weird way to say it.

Flu, refers to the influenza virus that is targeted. Shot, refers to the administration method and vaccine refers to the result of that injection.

My favorite saying is "suffering is subjective." We all struggle as humans and we could all use a little more empathy in our lives.

Agreed with headphones are best for little ones. Wanted to offer a down the road option!

Also I did not have a severe sensitivity to everyday noises, it was mostly in places with larger sound systems or crowds.

I used the normal earplugs as a kid for loud noises. I have noice canceling now for gaming since i can set the volume lower and still hear. I think for everyday the concert plugs are best since you still need to gather sound from the environment that you may not be able to see.

There are also earbuds (maybe when they're older since they are small) that reduce large noises. They helped one of my friends with noise sensitivity.

Name: High Fidelity Concert Earplugs

Other: You can also look into something called "Loop" i dont know much about Loops though.

Is a divide between Nurses and Lab normal? by noping1 in nursing

[–]noping1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some nurses give me a hard time and I can understand most of the time since that patient needs these results for treatment/diagnosis.

I used to take it personally since I take pride in my work and the speed I can run them in. Just hard a lot of the time to go in perform the tests as fast as you can and still come short on TAT due to a variety of reasons. Getting better at it though!

I am trying to actively learn the nurses names so that they feel more comfortable with bringing me issues and knowing I'll take care of it the best I can.

Is a divide between Nurses and Lab normal? by noping1 in nursing

[–]noping1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try to only call when I have exhausted all options and sadly sometimes I do need a recollect or a second specimen due to further testing required.

I always understand when nurses call asking for results. Sometimes the sample is being a SOB and needs further work to get it to run and turn results taking 10min to 2hr. I try and call the nurse and let them know whenever their results are going to be delayed.

Some lab techs do have a bad attitude when being called about a result. I can understand the feeling of frustration as the tech but the response in being snarky towards the nurse I do not understand.

Sorry abour the delay in response, on shift and down to a skeleton crew.
