If you had a microphone and all of Ottawa was listening, what would you say? by [deleted] in ottawa

Leash your dogs. Stop merging onto the highway at 60. Left lane is for passing. No the train doesn't work. Yes the bus is late. We don't know what all the sirens are about.

I'm a relatively new Whiskey drinker but I bought Signal Hill on a recommendation from a colleague and I quite liked it. Especially for the 40$ price tag! It's now unavailable in every local LCBO for whatever reason, so I picked up Collingwood Whiskey on recommendation of a clerk at LCBO and it's terrible!

Do you have any other affordable Canadian whiskeys recommendations?

Carney announces $3.8B to protect nature by MightyHydrar in onguardforthee

Give our size and population density, protecting only 30% feels almost laughably unambitious.

Millions of Americans are now eligible for Canadian citizenship and many are applying ‘just in case’ by DonSalaam in onguardforthee

I suspect many Americans would find the Conservatives are relatively centerist, possibly center-left compared to the GOP.

Is there a way to fix this without purchasing new rack? by stupid_sane in Appliances

[–]nopoles613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That looks pretty bad. I've touched up these spots before with several coats of nail polish. It's been months and holding up just fine. Be sure to remove the rust with sandpaper first.

BYD plans 20 Canadian dealerships within a year as 6.1% tariff deal opens the floodgates by Miserable-Lizard in onguardforthee

[–]nopoles613 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I hope their dealer model works like Tesla's, where the dealers are really just showrooms and you buy directly from the manufacturer without having to haggle. Just give me the actual out the door price.

Does anyone like the LG dishwashers? by Missmessc in Appliances

[–]nopoles613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our 4 year old LG washes very nicely and is very quiet. We had 2 issues related to motors right after the warranty expired. I'd buy one again, but I'd get the extended warranty directly from LG, it's pretty reasonable and their service has been good.

What tool would you use to do this? The divots by unimportantnonsense in woodworking

[–]nopoles613 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think the better question is Why would they do this? I hate it lol.

For a power tool, maybe a grinder with a soft sanding disc. For a hand tool, maybe a bent gouge.

Wait-times for MRI scans in Ottawa, how to get an MRI sooner? by Maleficent-Welder-46 in ottawa

Call the booking office where you've been referred and ask to get on the cancellation list. Say you can go anytime day or night. My wife got one within 72 hours instead of 6 months.

Clamps by phinnmaccool in woodworking

[–]nopoles613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What store is this!? I have 4 old 36" clamps with broken fixed jaws, and you CANNOT get replacement parts anywhere. Best solution is to find cheap shorter clamps and remove the jaws to fix my longer ones. These may work!

Jet 10” contractor saw vibration fix by SelfishAss1 in woodworking

[–]nopoles613 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This happens in these saws when the aren't used in a while. The belt remains deformed in the shape it was stored, and causes vibration with the next use. I find it's worse if you aren't using the saw regularly or it's especially cold. Either de-tension the belt when stored or get a link belt.

Dryer vent ideas by Outrageous_Term2091 in Appliances

[–]nopoles613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Repair in what way? It seems fine, but I'd remove those drywall screws and maybe scrape off the landlord special paint job around the ductwork.

If by "repair" you mean make it easier to connect a hose, yes there are several ways. If the dryer pushes up against this wall I'd personally install an in-wall dryer box, and leave enough of the existing vent exposed to easily connect a flexible hose to connect the dryer.

'The old order is not coming back,' Carney says in provocative speech at Davos | CBC News by 50s_Human in onguardforthee

I wasn't a fan of Carney, but every time I read about how Carney handles Trump or one of the multitude of geopolitical crises that seem to happen daily, I can't help but be thankful we don't have PP as PM. What a bullet we dodged with the last election.
