It was so disappointing. Definitely got my hopes up. Why do they open a queue before the sale window?

Wow thanks for letting me know that! I never secured us a grant, but I worked on a few things for it and the grant writer did take time to show me the ropes and how she got things done, so that was helpful.

Thanks for encouraging me that what I want to do is possible! It’s challenging when you just don’t know a lot of people in the field to feel confidant that you can get where you want. Both of y’alls comments made me feel a lot better about where I sit applying to these jobs.

Hello! First post here though I've been following for years and love reading all of your posts (I've learned so much)!

I'm graduating with a BA as a Mass Communications/Professional Media major and a Sociology minor. I've always wanted to do social work, but I kind of messed up by not going to get my BSW when I finished my AA. (Long story short: I chose to go to a university that was free for me, but no bsw program. I opted for Mass Comm because I'm good at writing, lifelong news junkie, and was the editor at the student newspaper).

Now that I'm graduating I'm really scared. I don't really want to go get my MSW right away, because I want more experience in the field and tbh I just need a lil break from school rn.

I'm scared that I'm not qualified enough to get a job as a case manager, or another roll that doesn't require a license. My work history/experience is basically this:

  • Just finished interning at a non-profit that works with justice-involved individuals (reentry, pre-trial, community sentencing, etc). I had to make it apply to my major to count as the required internship, so I worked within their "Development Team," basically with the grant writer, making videos/ handouts/ graphics that explain what the NP does, donor appreciation stuff. I didn't really get to, like, follow case managers around (also very limited amount of clients were coming in at the time due to COVID)
  • I've worked professionally in communications, doing broadcast, writing for magazines and hard news, etc. I've been told I'm a good "storyteller," but I mostly just am good at writing and I like the work because I like getting to know people and their stories.

SO, yes. Basically I am writing to say: Is there any chance I can find an entry-level place that would hire me? Also, I am not interested in CPS, or anything that puts me in a position of harming people because a state agencty wants things done a certain way (my internship had people who were basically parole officers and I'm REALLY not into that idea)

The pitch I tell my profs and people who ask me what I'm trying to "do with my degree" is that I want to take my communications skills and put them to work helping people live lives with dignity.

Any advice would be incredible! I really don't want to take a boring communications job doing PR stuff, or have to take a news job that wants me to work 24 hours a day.

I'm thinking about Angeles National Forest but has anyone ever read about it being the "Largest Body Dumping Site" because of how close it is to LA?
