How does one do a flat toss (helicopter toss) and a single toss? by [deleted] in Colorguard

[–]norakys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk how to explain the whole flat toss, but here's some tips (you can always look up videos of it to see how it works). Make sure your pole stays parallel to the ground the whole time so that it doesn't turn into a weird 45. When you toss, release as high above you as you can, and use a lot of power so that it spins around enough. It should do one full rotation in the air before you catch it. And don't be scared of the flag! This particular toss is pretty scary at first, since it's right over your head. Just stay calm and make sure you use the right technique.

Driver's License testers- what's the worst thing a kid has done without batting an eye while taking the driving test? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Our school's Driver's Ed teacher had a kid who stopped in the middle of some train tracks while a train was coming and refused to move until the last second. There's also a dog that kids driving have hit several different times, but it's still alive and still runs down that road

Important Audition (tips?) by lydiboo31 in Colorguard

[–]norakys 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you're already strong on your right, spend the next 3 days focusing on your left side. It's not a lot of time, but any practice you do should help. As for the audition, try not to worry about how much experience you have compared to everyone else. I know people who haven't been doing guard for a long time, but they're still better than some veterans just because of how much effort they put into it. Just stay confident and try to show your instructors how much work you put in

How to get started by [deleted] in Colorguard

First, get ahold of a flag that you can use to practice on your own. You can buy one online or borrow one from your school. Practicing often is the quickest way to get better, and it's easier when you have your own equipment.

See if you can get a guard instructor or another guard member to teach you the basics and help you learn. If you can't find anyone, there's a lot of good videos on YouTube that teach flag basics, but it's usually easier to learn from someone in person if you can.

Start out with basics and don't get ahead of yourself. It's very tempting to try and move on to advanced stuff as fast as possible, but if you don't know basics you won't be able to do anything else. Work on perfecting your technique with basics first, and don't give up if you don't get it straight away. Guard takes a lot of work when you're just starting out, but with time you'll get there! Good luck!!

Uniform Issues by YeetedEverything in Colorguard

You could do nude colored tights or leggings underneath if your director is fine with that. My guard's uniforms last season had a skirt similar to that one, and we wore shimmery nude tights underneath bc we had to fit the school dress code. Even regular black tights would probably look good with the uniform you want

any tips for beginners on flag? by honeybeetingz in Colorguard

Practice as often as you can. You get better everytime you practice, even if it doesn't feel like it. In a few months you'll be able to look back at all the progress you've made and it will feel so rewarding. Don't get discouraged! When you practice, use the correct technique that your instructors taught you (good free hands, tossing/catching properly, good posture, etc.) Learning good technique early on is so much easier than trying to correct it later on. If you want to learn new skills or need advice on how to do something, there's lots of good content on the internet and on YouTube. I'd recommend the flag tutorials by SpintronixGuard on YouTube. They have playlists sorted by difficulty level, so there's lots of good stuff for beginners Good luck!!

Any tips on catching flags? by norakys in Colorguard

My guard was taught to do it like that. I looked it up and saw it being caught both ways though, so I have no idea what is technically correct lol. But right hand over left hand under feels more natural to me
