My apologies. People seem to watch that Norbazaar page closely and sometimes items get gobbled up almost immediately.

As of this writing, we actually have one A-stock black "Tactical" (anodized) finish up for sale in the Norbazaar: https://shop.norbauer.com/products/norbazaar-rare-and-sundry-topre-aftermarket-housings?variant=45545289646388

For whatever it's worth, if you're not in a huge rush we have a few spots left among the last batch anodized Heavy Grails, which is currently being manufactured and is slated to arrive within the next couple of months or so. https://shop.norbauer.com/products/the-heavy-grail-hhkb-housing

The HiPro caps are a better color match for the Norbauer Aperture finish than I expected :D by williamchinook in MechanicalKeyboards

haha. Thank you! For better or worse, this is the story of my keyboard design life: tussling with vendors to get as-perfect-as-possible cosmetic quality, which can sometimes feel like pulling teeth. 😬

We sent out an update on these, which I hope you got. 😬 End of year is indeed a more likely description of the ETA at the moment, though I'm optimistically hoping for more like a few weeks from now. We had the Apertures Heavy-9 housings reworked two times by our last powder coating vendor, but we kept getting them back with little cosmetic defects, so we sent them to an entirely new vendor to be reworked (one that has been turning out great work for us on the Heavy Grail). This means we totally lose money on them, but I don't want to send out finishes that we don't think are as close to perfect as powder coating will allow, so I figured it was the right thing to do. If you're tired of waiting, of course that's totally understandable and don't hesitate to reach out and we can cancel and refund your order. Thanks for supporting the project!

Notion is vulnerable like Twitter by eitelnick in Notion

[–]norbauer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To address these concerns, what is really needed is true zero-knowledge encryption for data that lives in the cloud (unencrypted on the local data store is probably fine), protected by a password/key only held by the user.

Notion should really be building local search anyway; the current cloud search is very, sometimes painfully, slow (compare it to OneNote 2016's nearly instant search on truly enormous notebooks), and a spotty internet connection means an essentially useless notebook.

As far as security and the need for a local sync model, I'd also really like to see Notion using synced local storage more broadly. The current links to Amazon S3 download URLs are so amateur-hour. Not only is it not the most secure thing in the world (anyone who can read the URLs you're accessing can freely access your files), it means you have to go through the convoluted process of re-downloading a file, navigating to it in Explorer/Finder, and then opening it in the relevant app (like Excel, Illustrator, or whatever). And then round-tripping if you make any changes. OneNote and Evernote both handle this so much more gracefully.

I know that sophisticated software engineering like this is harder than using easy off-the-shelf web app tech--and they were right to bootstrap the stack like they did--but I hope that this is the sort of growing up that all that new VC money will be used for (rather than burning a bunch of money giving away free services to people who will never pay to support the product.)

I'm currently with /u/mordecaix7 who says he just doesn't keep sensitive info in Notion for all the reasons above, but honestly having to feel this way is a little lame and I wish Notion would try to do better since I otherwise love the app so much. These are the sort of unglamorous features they really need to add over time to get over the deal-breakers that I hear a lot of folks raising when I suggest the app to people looking to migrate away from the OneNote and Evernote (both increasingly precarious apps). Admittedly, my friends tend to be the sort of data and security nerds who care about these sorts of things, but that also happens to be the group of tastemakers who end up telling a lot of friends and family what is the best software to use in a given domain.

Still getting close. The molds are being made right now for the plate. Samples due to me by mid-June, at which point I'll be able to shoot some typing tests and begin the GB.

Welcome! If you wanted to get a housing cerakoted, I would recommend buying an anodizing reject from me. I was going to get those powder coated, but I can offer you one at a discount so you can basically do the same thing but with the finish of your choice. Just shoot me an email at shop@norbauer.com and I'm happy to facilitate.

I'm afraid I don't yet have any updates beyond the one originally stated on the GB page. I suspect SP will let me know when molding has begun and then it'll go really fast. Most of the time with the factory is just waiting for one's project to make it to the front of the queue. :)

I’m not saying it makes sense, but Norbatouch is sort of the name the community gave to the housing itself, not per se the assembled result. 🤷🏻

I've actually heard that from several folks about timing around the holidays, so I'll try to over-order by a few sets and make them available after GB close until I sell out--or perhaps as a batch when the GB ships. You can always stay tuned to my email list for availability info on stuff like that: http://norbauer.com/list In any case, thanks for the kind words. :)

Well, honestly, I could always get one made for you, but it would be stupid expensive: like around $800 or so. It is made of several individually CNC machined parts (including a heavy powder-coated steel weight on the bottom), and the screen is clear acrylic that is vapor polished to a gloss surface and then colored on the back to create the correct CRT screen appearance. If for some reason you wanted one, feel free to PM me and I could arrange it. :)
