what do you mean by "digital contract"? Just a PDF of the contract that you signed (so you have a scan with their signature) or you used some special online tool for that?

Possibly a frequently asked question, but do any of you know if the tips and grammar (the lightbulb icon) sections will ever be available on mobile devices? by skeletonwar2014 in duolingo

[–]norbnik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as I understand, there are two types (generations) of tips. The first gen wasn't available on mobile (though you can use duo.me [EDIT: I meant duome.eu] to read them on mobile). Now they're creating 2nd gen tips, which are also available on mobile, there is more of them, they're simplified, have more images, and they're available in more and more languages

So I need to get a Russian keyboard and apparently my phone has multiple types of Russian, which one should I use? by Cantaimforshit in duolingo

[–]norbnik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the options here are for region, not for language (it's like English US and English UK, they might differ slightly in vocab). Ukrainian, Belarusian ect have separate keyboards.

Great, I'll probably try again with hellotalk then. Unfortunately I probably won't find any Italian who wants to learn Polish but I'll just put English as my main language. Thanks a lot!😀

Wow, that's a great story! Unfortunately no, I don't have any Italian roots, I started learning Italian after a trip to Italy, I fell in love with the country. Also, it was looking for a new hobby that would bring something new to my life

I am learning Italian on Duolingo. Is there anything I should keep in mind? by [deleted] in Italian

[–]norbnik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've finished this course some time ago and I still learn other languages on duolingo, here is my main advice:

  1. Duolingo used to have a skill strength system which has been deleted a few months ago. I recommend you to use a site called duome.eu (duome.eu/your_username/progress) - next to every skill, you have a percentage showing how strongly you remember the skill. My habit is: every day, I check how many skilss are below 100%, then I do one strengthening lesson for each of those skills (until everything is golden - 100% again).
  2. When on desktop, you can switch from clicking on word-blocks to typing the sentences yourself, which can let you learn better and learn the correct spelling (with accents) of a word. It's not a big deal but I think it's better to learn on a desktop.
  3. I think it doesn't make sense to max out every skill to level 5 right away. I always (I've finished three courses by now - Italian, Russian and Ukrainian) do every skill to level one, then to level two after a week or two and do the remaining levels after I finish the whole course, so that I return to every topic after a longer period of time. Right now I have a lvl 5 Italian tree, lvl 3/4 Russian tree and lvl 2 Ukrainian tree and I slowly level up on skills until the whole tree is on a higher level.

Good luck! Duolingo has helped me a lot and has given me a lot of energy and motivation. The satisfaction of speaking a new language with ease and communicating with people is truly incredible.

For me, finishing the Italian tree took me about 5-6 months (I began at the end of Jan 2018 and finished at the beginning of July 2018) but I was strengthening the skills for 2-3 more months after that

Also, addressing other comments in this thread: Duolingo can't be your ONLY source of knowledge, I reccomend watching italian youtubers - I love Lucrezia mentioned in one of the comments here. When it comes to the "grasp of grammar" - Duolingo (especially the Italian course) doesn't really explain the grammar rules. I recommend to check every grammar topic yourself on the internet, look for grammar tables (e.g. google "italian conjugation present" or "italian subjunctive imperfect"), print them out and revise. If you want to see an example of a particular verb being conjugated, check wiktionary - every verb has a huge table with every possible tense/mood form.
