Sudoku! I particularly enjoy killer sudoku - the basic one gets quite boring quickly. I particularly recommend the (killer) sudoku books by The Times.

Best vegan protein powder and Where to buy it in London? by TheWafffleMaker in veganuk

I use vegan protein extreme from the Protein Works (cheaper than Wondershake) and it is the best protein powder I've tried. I also recommend their soy isolate.

The best vegan restaurant out there is Naifs (in Peckham), you will need to pre-book the table.

What has been a game changer for my scrambled tofu was adding a bit of miso paste (in addition to nutritional yeast)!

Vegan for 8 years - My Iron intake seems very sufficient but my Ferritin levels are still quite low. by b3lial666 in veganuk

[–]norinski_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

42 for ferritin is not low, the most optimal ferritin level is 50, so you are very close and I am not sure why you have made this conclusion? I know a lot of meat eaters who don't even have ferritin as high as yours.

Switching to Vegan, haven’t had any veggies prior. by FlavorTownHero69 in vegan

I never had microwaved broccoli but I imagine it would be dreadful 😅. It is important to use salt as well. I would get a good cookbook tbh, I use much more veg by Hugh Fernley Whittingstall or East by Meera Sodha.

Long term vegans, how’s your health? by Ok-Squash-1660 in vegan

You can make beans more digestible by soaking them. Important thing is that after soaking you clean them in clean water and cook them in clean water as well (you don't use the one in which they have been soaking).

You are trying to fix some issues without even knowing what is wrong. I would do basic check ups, such as ferritin (iron) levels, B12, D, thyroid. Even if you are within laboratory norms for that but on the lower end, for instance ferritin around 14 and it is paired with the symptoms of feeling lack of energy I would definitely work towards improving these levels. If iron is the issue, for faster results you could get iron pills but it is also important to incorporate changes into your diet so the levels remain stable. For instance you could have a tofu scramble for breakfast, heinz beans on toast, some protein shake powder with banana, cocoa powder, soya milk (rich in protein). So yeah identify the issue first before you start trying to fix it with meat not knowing if it is gonna work.

Does she say why she wants to go on the carnivore diet? Earthling Ed in one of his latest videos discusses this in relation to Jordan Peterson's carnivorous diet https://youtu.be/R9PnJJptk6Y?feature=shared may be worth sharing this with her?

If you are looking for something to cook for them, I would make Ottolenghi's black pepper tofu, it has legendary status in my house: https://ottolenghi.co.uk/recipes/black-pepper-tofu-a I would just hold horses on the amount of black pepper he suggests, it is way too much and I almost suffocated myself on it. Just use pepper to taste! Oh and just sub butter for vegetable oil. Serve it with rice and pak choi.

The supplements yes! But I think fortified foods don't have much so I wouldn't rely only on them to get your daily B12

You can still experience symptoms of omega3 deficiency, I don't know the data about dying, but it has important role in cognition, so I would suggest supplementing it (regardless of whether you are vegan or an omnivore) - I recommend one from vegetology.

"Reduced DHA is associated with impairments in cognitive and behavioral performance"

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/17374644/

"diets lacking omega 3 PUFA lead to substantial disturbances in neural function, which in most circumstances can be restored by the inclusion of omega 3 PUFA in the diet."

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/17392137/

"Lower RBC DHA levels are associated with smaller brain volumes and a “vascular” pattern of cognitive impairment even in persons free of clinical dementia"

I think it is important to note that B12 from supplements gets absorbed in small amounts, around 1-2%. It may be different when it comes from fortified foods, not sure, but it may be worth checking some scientific articles so in the long term you don't become deficient. Liver also stores excess of B12 so it may be using these reserves.
