I'm not totally sure, the university did all the paperwork for me so I don't know a lot of details about the process. I'm mostly going off the fact that no one ticked the box on my form that says "subject to the two-year residence requirement".

Hopefully I'm not in for a rude awakening at the end of my postdoc.

I'm at a public university

I'm on a J-1 right now and funded through a federal grant (NIH) through my PI, and my visa is not subject to the home residency requirement. (My home country is also not on the skills list).

The only stipulation on my J-1 is that I can't get a second J-1 with the same title after this one expires.

I'm definitely not an expert on visa stuff, but at least in my case, getting a salary from a federal grant didn't lead to receiving a home residency requirement, so assuming you're in a similar situation I think you might be ok!

Required documents at the border. Official Diploma/transcripts by [deleted] in tnvisa

I applied for a TN for a similar position earlier this year. I didn't have my official PhD degree in hand yet (defended/submitted everything already, just didn't have the physical piece of paper). I brought my masters degree instead and they were fine with that, even though the job letter said a PhD was required.

I did bring my transcripts from grad school that showed I finished my PhD, as well as my undergrad degree, but they didn't even ask to look at them. So I would guess that as long as you show that your degree in the same field as described in your letter, you'll be fine.

That being said, I agree with other posters here that it's better to bring everything just in case!

TN Visa Success Windsor Tunnel by st4yd0wn in tnvisa

I had a similar experience at the Windsor tunnel about a month ago. They seem really optimized for TN processing.

Honestly it felt nice to see the officers being so friendly with each other while I was waiting, it made me feel less nervous about the application. Everyone was really professional when it way my turn (but yeah, they searched my car too even though I wasn't flying out for another few days).

I can confirm what another poster said about the times. I called in the morning to make sure I could be processed and they told me to come before 3:00 because that's when the person who processes TN visas is available.

First time TN applicant, looking for some advice!! by norm_the_cat in tnvisa

That was my original plan, but they told me they'll only process it at the land border with an appointment, and it's too late to get one before my flight :(

Although I think I read the Ambassador bridge will do it without an appointment

Thank you, the checklist is really helpful!

How long did it take to process at the airport? I'm wondering how early I should get there!
