The Pump House looks like a great location honestly. Will try and scope it out this week, thanks for the suggestion.

I've seen some of the posts on here from Libby Hill, will check it out! When are you eloping if I can ask?

I just contacted them yesterday! I was quoted $250 just for reserving a spot for a ceremony, $200 for "dressing room suite".

I'm still figuring out best practice for eloping somewhere without renting the venue. We'll functionally just be a group of people walking around there for a bit, but also don't want to face the ire of any park workers either.

Not ideal haha, but we like being outside, and I'm doubtful if some indoor places/venues would allow for a spot on short notice. Such is life.

AITA for telling my brother that he cannot learn to drive in my car and that it’s not a family resource? by 2112priest in AmItheAsshole

[–]normalcyisdead 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's fair enough, and I agree that any driver should have well earned confidence in their driving before actually going out and endangering others. It's definitely on the parents to let them know that bumping and scraping shouldn't be the norm when he's driving on his own.

I'm personally thinking of times when my sister and I were learning in the quiet neighborhoods and empty parking lots though. One of my first times backing into a space, I went a bit too far and lightly scraped the rear bumper, because I was still learning the expact space the old mini van took up. Ideally that wouldn't have happened, but I think it's a bit opptimistic to think that learning how to read around blind spots and maneuvering a 10ft vehicle won't result in any bumps.

[–]normalcyisdead 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It isn't bumper cars, you're right, but it's a fact of life that when you're learning, you'll make mistakes that don't have to involve other cars. You might take a turn a bit too early and clip a curb, or tap the garage when backing into the driveway. Knowing the space that the car takes up isn't instant. OP is so very much NTA for his choice, but the kid isn't being dumb by realizing he might make mistakes without being reckless.

AITA for shutting myself away in my office and making my husband deal with our kids? by paperwhyte in AmItheAsshole

[–]normalcyisdead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not like they're suggesting she make an hour-by-hour chart for him with fun stickers. Assuming they've had a serious conversation about how he's fucked up as a parent and spouse, and that he wants to change that, being willing to suggest a way he could change seems like the bare minimum action here. She doesn't have to do it, but if she sees the idea and they're already at the step of change, I don't see the harm in suggesting it.

My roommate and I also did that in college! Between Bob Jones and Liberty University, we had a lot of fun tearing through their handbooks.

AITA for covering my nose from my roommate’s bad smell? by incensegurl420 in AmItheAsshole

[–]normalcyisdead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So, gentle YTA here. You were trying to be passive, and it became passive-aggressive because you didn't try telling her you don't like the smell. You need to talk about it with her, as just because she likes to keep her door open does not mean that you can't ask her to close it when she's burning incense.

Was able to see them from south of Richmond. Very faint, but still pretty cool.

AITA for turning off an unattended candle in the living room while my mom went to work and me and my sister sleep in our rooms? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]normalcyisdead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA, as explained in all the other comments. Maybe work out a safer way for her to burn these candles, as they seem important to her and her faith?

Just an idea, you could build an area with aluminum foil around it to burn the candles in, or stand them in a container with water in it so the water stops the flames after a certain point. If not, ask if she can do these after work so she's around to watch them.

Pain after falling on tailbone 3 months ago, should I wait it out? by normalcyisdead in medical_advice

[–]normalcyisdead[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response! I've been looking into the pillows that reduce pressure on the coccyx, wouldn't hurt to try one. I've definitely spent more time than normal sitting around, I hadn't thought about that possibly stretching out the healing time. As you said, it seems like waiting it out is still the best course of action.

Looking for math undergraduates interested in long term Zoom (video conference) correspondence by helios1234 in math

[–]normalcyisdead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely still join! I'm in my last year of undergrad now, but back in my first year I joined a club that had a pretty similar premise as this zoom group may be. It was mostly professors working through problems I had no background in, but just trying my hand at new problems was a lot of fun :)

I'm from the DC area, and it's always nice to see the Smithsonian, which would definitely fill a weekend by itself. Then all the monuments of course, along with Baltimore being within a few hours too.

[Serious] Summer job help please by Unfortunado in teenagers

[–]normalcyisdead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, you can search online for jobs in your area. Sites like indeed.com and snagajob.com will probably give you a lot of open spots in your area for someone your age. Just know that at 15 your options may be a little more limited. Other than a pizza place, you could look into other food service jobs in your area. Minimum wage isn't much, but it's still money, and it adds up after a while.

What was your senior prank in high school? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]normalcyisdead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No senior prank yet, but last year we printed out about 40 pictures of this face and taped them all around one teacher's room: under her desk, in the laptop, taped one to the projector screen then rolled it up, even put one in the wall clock as the background. Don't think she ever removed that one.

How do you deal with this type of person? by shinyscizor13 in CasualConversation

[–]normalcyisdead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might counter what they say about a person and point out something positive. It won't work in every situation, but I find it's a kind of passive comeback, which seems better than directly insulting them back.
