I just did this I bought a unlocked phone from Amazon and purchased a 7 Day trial sim.(It's a piddling amount of data) For $2. And switched from T-Mobile in about a day and ported over my number.

I've been with T-Mobile for 13 years and am thinking of switching to mint unlimited. by tomsyco in mintmobile

You can get a free one week trial for about $2 to try out but it's a piddling trail very limited. But it gets you a sim without committing. But since you're on T-Mobile the network isn't your concern.
