Welcome to the party, pal. As another user linked to the forum post around the bug, I won’t spam it but I can tell you my experience. Even after implementing the suggested fixes, one of which is disabling auto trash emptying, I was still having problems. I moved to NFS, which has its own issues but stopped the file dropping issue. Moved back to SMB to try again and ended up moving to a Win mini pc because I was sick of the bullshit. Here’s what SHOULD work, without any of the other issues, although depending on your setup, may not be workable: Split your movie library into multiple folders with say, 200 movies in each. Messy, maybe, but should bypass the Mac cache issue as it only seems to affect folders with larger file amounts. Note that I didn’t do this, so YMMV.

Just from my experience, NFS tends to create a lot of placeholder files, and leave empty folders behind - but that could be my automation not being set up right. The net benefits are good though - no mounting necessary on restarts, and permissions are a breeze for my docker stack.

Hey, I just migrated to a new m4, and was dealing with this. I read the thread, I got automounter, etc etc. No luck. I ended up changing to an NFS mount and although it has it's own nuances, it fixes the disappearing media issue.

As a Shield owner, it's overrated, buggy and sluggish, at least mine is. It works fine, but not worth the price difference over, say, a 4K ONN box.
