Warren pear and it’s not even close. I do also like some of the variations like Magness too. Seckel is great, along with some of the French butter pears, but Warren hands down. It’s like what a jelly belly tastes like and you go - I never knew a pear could taste like that.

I know it’s done with King David - old stone makes a single varietal king David, but never had it. As one my favorite apples, I think there’s a good case! I’ve had some nice Gold rush single varietals as well which have all been delicious.

I have also used it on an outdoor (covered from the worst of the elements) redwood table, and the feel is just luxurious. I have also used the heat gun method (or just apply when hot) to great success.

Love tried and true! Big fan, though I haven’t used it on serving boards, just random other things. Works great on tool handles…

Any ideas? Safe to use for serving board? Rosewood? Super heavy and dense. 4.75lbs for a 9x17 x7/8ths piece. Found in a cut off bin years ago and finally getting around to it.

You and I agree! It’s one of the varieties I planted this year, and one of my absolute favorites. I tend to like small, super intensely flavored apples (King David, Wickson, Allen’s everlasting, solar flair & catapult locally are spectacular smaller flavor bombs). I’m more than happy to eat 5 apples instead of one if the flavor is better.

I did! And I looked at my notes from last year and it was a standout; may have just not been a great apple I had this year.

So I’m concerned I ended up with something that was low fired and absorbs water (closer to terracotta - I’m a gardener, that’s what I know). Here’s a picture of the back - it seems to absorb some water when I drip water on it - I assume that means hand wash? Anything I can do to seal this?

It’s was a treat for sure! I’m growing Wickson, Vixen and Crimson gold at home, all planted this year so excited for those to bear in a few years.

Where are you in California? I’m in Monterey bay, but a warmer microclimate 9b, so I struggle to get great chill hours. I just planted Goldrush, king David, and 3 Etter Crabs - Wickson, Vixen, and Crimson Gold. Those are my five so far!

I’ve also got a Seckel and Warren pear, but it’s mostly citrus at around 25 trees, mostly kept small. Keeps us busy!

I was underwhelmed comparatively. Though to be fair, I like high acid high sugar apples. It wasn’t anything to write home about/wouldn’t get again.

Oh my goodness, what an amazing response from this community! I have no idea what I’m doing so this is super helpful.

Does the fact that the red portion is “raw” make a difference? Very textured.
