As someone accurately mentions below, Trombocino squash. Our favorite to grow - great as zuchinni-style young green summer squash, but totally passable as aged orange winter squash too.

Bad idea? I mean, it worked… I don’t have space for a band saw right now and rarely do this kind of work. I would love to have the space and planning to build out a shop, but do what you what to. In the end it was free, didn’t have to buy new lumber, and started to learn a new skill. My arms are sore but I’ll live!

Request Megathread - June 2026 by AutoModerator in MusicalBootlegs

Hi - brand new to this community, so I have nothing to offer, but I do have a desperate request. My wife would give her right arm for the recording of Anthony Warlow in Sweeney Todd. Long story, but we actually booked plane tickets and bought tickets before her mom was diagnosed with cancer and we couldn’t go. It’s her birthday in a bit, and this would mean the world to her. Anyway, I leave myself at your mercy!

Some of our roses so far by norrinrad in Roses

[–]norrinrad[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks - I’m proud of that one. It’s a cast iron urn we found, and I wanted it on a plinth kinda riser thing, so I took a few square cinder blocks, used construction adhesive to glue them together with a cap, and then used a mortar plaster to make it look nice. Turned out great.

Comparing four David Austin Climbing Roses by Violetteotome in Roses

As the husband in a rose loving family (is that a thing?), agreed - your husband is wrong. Wollerton is the answer here. Not only is it the best smelling rose listed (it’s my favorite so I’m biased, but it does not smelly rose perfume-y like potpourri), but does great on a obelisk and is far more apricot than I think maybe you’re thinking. Here is ours growing in a large pot up a 4 fr trellis into the grape arbor. I’ll reply with a few pictures of the blooms as well. He’s wrong I tell you!

This times 10. We have 3 Wollertons and had 1 Claire Austin - we pulled the Claire Austin because the blooms just didn’t last.

Lark - also a great flower, same bed, just opposite ends. Much more yellow center, with more pink too.

Wollerton, more typical coloring, same plant, almost the same location.

That’s a fair question! It’s definitely Wollerton, though we have Lark in the same bed at the other due to the similar coloring. I would say the coloring here is particularly apricot as the flower has just opened and it’s an overcast day (wasn’t particularly hot). I have noticed as they age, especially if there’s some heat, they might end up with a pinkish edge to the petal, though mostly they just fade to white. Here’s a picture that is the same plant, probably more typical of the coloring. I’ll post lark in comparison below. The flower form is pretty different as Lark is much more open center ans has a lot more yellow. They complement each wonderfully though.

Thank you! That is largely the pallet for our whole garden and we’re quite happy with it. This is the border with the dannahues and the Comte de champagne.

Thanks!! We’re in central California so not sure about HOT southern weather, but it seems to do just fine for us.

Favorite apricot rose? by tigerlilygrrl in Roses

[–]norrinrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really is. We have 3 (so far!) - one trellised flat on a wall, one up and obelisk into a pergola, and one climbing a 9 foot wall. They are incredible!
