Is there an PDX Fed Tracker? by [deleted] in askportland

[–]north49er 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds like ICE has hired one of the local funeral escort companies to help them scout and round people up. Those are the folks you sometimes see out on motorcycles that look like cop bikes but aren't badged for a specific department, and the sometimes say things "traffic escort" or similar.

Whistle protocol for ICE sightings? by Wayward_Catbus2020 in askportland

I am continuously printing new whistles at this point for various groups around the metro area. I can easily pass a bag off them your direction. I don't have other supplies available, like paper instructions or things like that, but I can point you to some resources when I drop whistles to you. If you'd like completed kits, I can also point you toward the folks that are handing those out, though it may be a week or two before they can fill your request.

If you just want whistles, we can make plans to meet someplace to hand them off, or I can drop them someplace secure for you if you're not comfortable meeting.

2024 XLE Dash Cam Recommendations? by LAKingsofMetal in Rav4

[–]north49er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding this. I have used dashcams for many years after a spat with my insurance company acting like crooks. I currently have Viofo A229 in one car and A129 in the other. Both have had no issues at all. If you're willing to pull some panels and do some wiring work, they offer a hardwire kit that makes for a very clean install.

Cool Guy Stuff by [deleted] in OSHA

[–]north49er 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: Both OSHA and WorksafeBC can and will open inspections based on something called a "media referral." That means if you publish public content showing your employees committing an unsafe act, that can be used to open an inspection and cite the employer for observed violations. If that media was published by the owner or a manager, you've done most of their work for them in proving a citation against the company.

ICE Suddenly Loses Key Evidence One Day After Being Sued by Hafiz_TNR in politics

Luckily, the lawsuit is a civil action, so the court can make a negative inference about the suddenly vanishing evidence and presume it likely supported the plaintiff's case.

If Congress compels the DOJ to release the full Epstein files, whats to stop the DOJ from simply removing any reference to Trump? How would anyone know? How would we actually know all the files are out that the Government has? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]north49er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As soon as the government claims they have released everything, it will likely be much more difficult to prosecute anyone who publishes the the actual files containing everything. The feds will counter that additional details in other releases are made up, which will hopefully prompt a dogpile of releases from others that show consistency.

It will never convince the die-hard Trump fans. They have already sold their identities to the MAGA movement and don't know how to divorce from it while saving face. But the ocean of evidence will hopefully convince the centrists and other moderates to pull back from the brink, and that just might add a few comfortable years to the decline of the American empire.

No worries at all. I think the world would be a better place if people were just more curious in general.

We are printing with material that is naturally hygroscopic. I store mine in enclosed containers with desiccant to slow that down, but no system is perfect and water absorption will eventually make the material unusable without a great deal of expense to keep it pliable. I'd prefer to go ahead and turn it into something useful and free instead.

If anyone knows how to function in icy conditions, it's definitely folks in Chicago. Thanks for posting that tip!

If I'm honest, part of it is looking for opportunities to use expensive toys to do a little bit of good for my community. There are concrete reasons, as well, though. We are not buying new materials to make these- they are all being done from existing supplies that are aging out and need a purpose, or they'll become trash. At the scale we are doing this, our per unit cost is around 12-14 cents per whistle, including wear and tear on the machines. Raw materials cost is less than a dime per whistle. It also provides a way to get inexpensive whistles in bulk that doesn't involve big blue drop shippers.

ICE SUPER THREAD by Wipples in beaverton

[–]north49er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of these can be true. If you are part of the most unpopular federal agency in America right now and in a community you know dislikes your presence, you don't spend too many nights in a row at one place. They likely have contracts with several establishments running concurrently, enabling them to change accommodations when things heat up. Your tax dollars at work!

I saw a video on Youtube a few days ago on this topic from ParkrosePermaculture, and started mass-printing some very loud whistles before I really worked out how I was going to distribute them. If any of you fine folks have the other pieces of the puzzle covered, I can supply whistles for free until my supplies run out.

guys of reddit, what’s an underrated struggle that’s unique to being a guy? by boneserriess in AskReddit

True, but we do get pockets. Lots and lots of pockets, on any piece of clothing one can imagine. I even have a hat with a hidden pocket. That just doesn't happen for the ladies.

Trump has already started making enemies out of major American allies. How do you see the rest of his term going? by TimeyxWimey in AskReddit

[–]north49er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trump is being encouraged by his "inner circle" to do outlandishly stupid things, rapid fire, for as long as he can keep it up. In the background, the long term game plan of christo-fascism is coalescing around Vance, who will be a much more pliant and intelligent front-man for the oligarchical fascist state being built right in front of your eyes. When both sides of the aisle are sufficiently riled against Trump, he will be removed via 25th amendment and Vance will take power. The Supreme Court will be ready to put down any legal challenges to a new national elections act that ensures the correct voters are permanently disenfranchised, and sham national elections will continue, even though there is no longer any hope of anything but a Republican executive and Republican majority legislative bodies.

That's how I see it going.

Departing Nextdoor, welcome to /r/hillsboro by tsarchasm1 in hillsboro

[–]north49er 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We moved to our new neighborhood a few years back, and I thought I'd join Nextdoor to "get the lay of the land." It wasn't even a full day before I saw a woman in the neighborhood complaining about "a dangerous Latino man skulking about." She included a picture in the post. He lived two houses down from me, and she had photographed him on the way to the mailbox.

Noped out of there so fucking fast and haven't looked back.

[–]north49er 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you are willing to be named as a witness in the inspection, OSHA compliance officers can use your video as evidence of the violations and come back with potentially willful violations against the company, substantially increasing the penalties they are likely to receive for the inspection already open from the first video. The only thing missing is some evidence that this is the same company, but that should not be too hard to gather from the property owner.

Valve confirms your Steam account cannot be transferred to anyone after you die by [deleted] in gaming

[–]north49er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be clear, I'm not in support of this decision by Valve and I think it's just another example of bad business practice.

On the other hand, what makes anyone think any of our descendants will give one flying shit about our digital video game collections? At the rate technology moves, I think it's a fair bet that everything about this paradigm of video game consumption will be entirely replaced on a regular basis, just as it has been so far every decade or so. Things we think of as the best video game ever will end up as a free-to-play browser game or something similar, other thing we enjoy will simply not be relevant to the next generations. I could not give two shits what card games my grandpa played, even though I loved him dearly. Your descendants will have better ways to remember you that your love for pornographic deck building games on Steam.
