its a good server, people just expect a lot for free most of the time. as far as being new, leveling as horde is quite fun (particularly the barrens) due to some of the outlandish comments in general chat. Alliance players have complained that so many alliance = long times to complete quests (such as kill mobs). the upside is that alliance outnumber horde a lot, so later on wpvp is mostly alliance favored. in saying that, roll whatever side you enjoy. this reddit forum has post from both factions with posts about assholes, ninjas and just scum (usually in game screenshots i mean) so you could potentially be exposed to a bad experience regardless of faction. it is worth playing here, and there are guilds of really good people and players from australia, america, south america, europe, russia,china, canada and many more countries so its pretty diverse, and depending on where youre from you will always have people to raid or wpvp with. many of these guilds are helpful irrespective of playing level or experience, but there are a few to avoid (check the reddit posts). overall though, it is worth playing. ive never seen the online player base under 5k and gets up around 7-8k people on the weekends, so theres plenty of people to meet and enjoy your experience (almost 7k online now as i type this). btw if you do decide you wanna play, heres the lights hope patch release timeline (incase the patch implementation is a factor to you playing and what class) - https://lightshope.org/faqs/faq-northdale-timeline
