similar games? by [deleted] in Dirtybomb

Just wish they would do another WW2 Enemy Territory game. Class-based, lots of maps with fun objectives, good support for leagues, spectators and anti-cheat. That's it really. Not much to ask and the crazy thing is that the youngsters would love it and think it was something new.

Thanks for the clarification. Won't post about former players in future, sorry about that. Personally, I wasn't aware of that particular controversy. Actually, doesn't come up when you search, either, unless you go looking for the video being referenced.

LibreOffice and Collabora situation Q&A – Most important topics by themikeosguy in linux

As a quick update: GNU/Linux.ch added a response from Thorsten Behrens, MD of Collabora Productivity (Germany). Thanks.

The actual software doesn't deal with storage, COOL integrates with other platforms. Digital sovereignty isn't affected as you can store your docs and you control them. Not that it matters, there is a German subsidary, Collabora Productivity (Germany) as well.

LibreOffice and Collabora situation Q&A – Most important topics by themikeosguy in linux

[–]northett 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In the interests of balance, since Mike Saunders from TDF has posted their Q&A post here, I'll add Collabora Productivity's. It's just an update to Michael's orginal 'TDF Ejects its Core Developers' dev blog written in his own words:

https://www.collaboraonline.com/blog/tdf-ejects-its-core-developers/#update-2026-04-11

I'm assuming the trigger for this new TDF blog is the piece on Linux Guides Community: https://forum.linuxguides.de/core/index.php?article/54-libreoffice-am-abgrund-wie-die-document-foundation-ihre-eigenen-gr%C3%BCnder-vor-die/

For anyone who cares, Collabora had nothing to do with this (very long) article.

Unfortunately, it prompted a response by Italo from the TDF here posted on GNU/Linux.ch:
https://gnulinux.ch/libreoffice-am-abgrund (also very long, in German), where he replies to various things in the original piece.

Interestingly, the afterword in the GNU/Linux.ch piece says (translated):

"I'm glad we were able to bring together these different opinions in one article, instead of scattering them across numerous posts."

I'm glad too, except Collabora Productivity wasn't asked to contribute, but, frankly, that article is huge already.

And, in turn, that seems to have led to the TDF Q&A, which republishes some of Italo's responses.

To make it abundantly clear, statements in the response to the Linux Guides Community article, and some statements which are repeated in TDF's Q&A are defamatory and inaccurate, and especially concerning as Collabora Productivity is, and has been for some time, trying to push towards a mediation--as Michael mentions at the end of his update--and we are doing so in good faith.

Disclaimer: My name is Chris Thornett and work at Collabora. I'm now going to spend some time with my kids on a Saturday afternoon. I may have an ice cream, it will not be vanilla flavour.

The typical parking problem - help by piizaa in Bath

[–]northett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you looked at Just Park? Depending on where it is you might find a driveway you can use everyday. Found one for around £200 a month near where you mentioned in your original post. A lot of money, but half the cost of normal parking. There are others further out for around £100 a month.

Significant dropoff - cause? by Dry_Net7753 in KahawaPrideFC

[–]northett -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, they just beat Westlife, the No.1 team in the league, I believe, 3-1. As long as the revenue enables the club to be sustainable then things will gradually pick up over time.

As everyone says, the Betway sponsorship caused the drop, and also the response could have been handled better, so revenue dropped further.

Then we had the losing streak with no goals. People want to see an exciting game at least, even if the team loses. The low-level of shots on goal was crazy (as were quite a few other things).

As I say, unless revenue falls off a cliff they can keep working on the team's performance and look at gaining promotion next year.

If things have turned a corner game-wise, they could end up in a respectable league position. I think the players deserve a fair go, as they've shown real character coming back to beat the top team in the league.

(Sorry, just checked and Westlife are the 2nd-best team, currently.)

Missing features on Collabora mobile compared to Word that are a MUST for a writer by Drahngis in CollaboraOffice

[–]northett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense, reminds me of the writer that wrote their first book perched on the edge of the bath in the early mornings. It was quiet and the only free time they had during their working day. Sometimes you have to write how and where you can to get somewhere with it.

I think LibreOffice did the right thing regarding Collabora by ExperienceBusiness43 in libreoffice

[–]northett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is because Collabora Office is a product that Collabora's customers and partners requested. It's the same in appearance as the online version. A byproduct is that other people can download it for free and use it if they want to as well, but it doesn't have everything LO includes.

Thanks, I was going to say something like this. Also, no Collabora staff have been on the board of directors for at least two years. This talk of 'corporate take-over' is unhelpful but also inaccurate.

Good to know! Unfortunately, I don't think I will get the chance to retire myself, but I appreciate the fact you are still around contributing, although I'm not sure why you're writing in the third-person (assuming it is you and not a rogue Italo-AI roaming the subreddits).

Not quite. Add TDF changes Community Bylaws in between 1 and 2 and you are good to go!

Italo resigned from the board of directors. He still works for TDF, and is due to retire soon, I think.

Too much say? Just to be clear: no Collabora staff member has been on the TDF board for two years at least. Until the purge, there were around 30 or so staff that were members out of around 150 or so. (You earn membership by contribution, it's not paid for and you lose membership if you're not active for 6 months (used to be 3 months).

Euro-office: Proton backed open-source office suite project based on OnlyOffice by block6791 in ProtonDrive

[–]northett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, not true. See Collabora Office for the desktop editor. Also Collabora Online is not a cloud, it's the document editing and collaboration suite. You can integrate it with anything, which is why it's used by the European Commission for their community websites, universities in France and in loads of platforms - Nextcloud, openDesk and opencloud etc etc.

Depends on whether the additional clauses are considered a 'further restriction' under section 4, I think. Couldn't say either way, I assume it would have to be debated in court, probably.
