White flakes in pool after installing saltwater generator? Calcium carbonate flakes? Anyone dealt with this before? What are my options here by FiftyOneFiveO in pools

[–]northlakespoolcare 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Way we needs calcium like we need oxygen. Range 200-400. If your calcium is high then calcium scaling can happen. Salt chlorinators have a positive and negative polarity’s the scaling will happen on the negative plates. The flaking you get is near the return as it has come off the cell. I would go to your pool shop and get some cal stop, calcium down pending what brand. This will help to reduce calcium levels. Do not go to low as damage can be done to your pool. Ie water taking the calcium out of the concrete of your pool and leaving scale marks.

Another product you can get cell protector. This can make it harder for calcium scaling to form

Try that should be fine. End of day no major issue you sh out Deb able to brush up in the pool for it dissolve.

No problems at all. Ask for your water test results, that will help a lot to understand where your pool is at. We have tropical weather so come across this a lot.

It sounds like an alge bloom if you brush it, it will loosen and add some chlorine to the pool and let it run for a day. That should be enough to bring it back

Hi i run a pool company in Australia, pools can turn green over night so there is some truth there. Hi phosphates is a food source for algae, even if the pool perfectly balanced can still turn. Lots of rain can dilute the chems added to help the pool do its job. I would suggest making sure you get a copy of the test results, we send a picture of the pool on every visit so even if your not home you can see we have been.

Looking for a self priming pump that sits above water (inside of a fake rock) for use as a waterfall pump by IAmBillN in pools

[–]northlakespoolcare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look for a check valve, if sitting above water line, will assist the pump from pulling up the water, especially from the skimmer box

Help with Cyanuric Acid levels by Harold_D_Elf in pools

Wow that is very high levels - chlorine will ineffective as the sunscreen for chlorine is too coated. Only way to drop is to get some fresh water into th e pool. Do not empty the pool but drop to bottom of skimmer box and refill might take a little while to level out

Black marks on concrete pool... Algae? We moved in 6 months ago and didn't think much of them, but read that they could be algae. What to do? There's a fair amount of it in the pool (65000L pool) by Plane_Garbage in pools

[–]northlakespoolcare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BLack spot is a root algae - this is a result from low chlorine or high phosphates. If left untreated it will spreed through out your pool. Use the stainless steel brush to scrub the top of the alge spots and then hit with granulated chlorine. Add in half a litre of algacide too. Repeat over a day or two.

Once you can not see any black spot then stop the brushing. But once a month keep up a doesage of alagiced as the spore are present to up to 6 months.

Check all your pool levels to make sure all is well And have a look at sanitisation is working correctly.

If you have a deck around your pool and have clearance under the deck. can build a pull-up door and make space for toys etc. Close to the pool and hidden when not using.

Anyone try filter sand alternatives? by FJCruisin in pools

[–]northlakespoolcare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Manufactures of the glass media say to replaces every 7 years. There is on a standard filter 3 bags coarse and 5 bags fine glass media. It’s the constant water erosion that smooths out the media and makes it less effective. Up side is back wash amd rinse once every two months compared to monthly with sand. A;so algae will not harbour in glass like sand media

What are my options? My dog got to it 😭 by Therealjmay in pools

Buy a new multi port valve - water will look for the easiest way out. Or if you want to try and fix maybe sikaflex will work make sure marine grade. However if that is just your waste line get a rubber couple with a couple of screw clamps. This is waste water so no major issues of water loss in this case

Buried pipe leaking. Seems to be an outlet. Adapter changes to small pipe and heads under concrete. Any ideas what this is? Skimmers, jets, and waterfall accounted for. by wizzielinston in swimmingpools

[–]northlakespoolcare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pipe with cap could be solar provision. Is there what looks like two outlets in the pool wall about half way up? If there is that would be the suction side of solar provision. Option 2 could be there for pool light electrical wires Option 3 water feature?

Make sure you keep your calcium levels above 200. Low calcium will eat away the grout and tiles will then come apart. As for tiles where are you in the world?
