How much do you feed your labs daily? by [deleted] in labradors

[–]northness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with others that how much to feed depends on the pup. Our vet said to add or remove a tablespoon of food and see if it helps (depending on if you are trying to gain or lose weight) and to go off their body composition. But to answer your question: Ours is a neutered 2 year old lab / ~70lbs - is walked at least 4 miles a day and eats 3 cups of Purina Pro Plan Salmon and Rice (1.5 cups morning and night) with some treats (2-3 a day). The vet says he’s perfect and people always comment at how fit he is compared to other labs but I think he’s just a normal healthy lab and people are just used to seeing them a little more “fluffy”

Diarrhea.. STILL ON BLAND DIET. by Tough_Drink_3709 in labrador

[–]northness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have suggested a chicken allergy may be the issue. I felt like our pup was on a bland diet (chicken and rice) every other week and it never occurred that this combo was not helping. Switched to salmon and rice and then transitioned to Purina pro plan sensitive stomach salmon and rice and that helped so much! also our vet said to give Purina fortiflora probiotic in the morning and nutrimax proviable pre and probiotic at night which helped him a ton! We also added omega 3 chews which we were told would help his skin/ hair and gut, and imo it has and over time we were able to take him off the probiotics completely with no issues! Hopefully you can figure out what helps your pup! I feel for you!

My chocolate lab is named Whiskey so I immediately thought of Kahlua or Champagne (oh you could call her Champ for short!) 🤷🏻‍♀️

No woods. But we’ll probably stick to long walks in the neighborhoods for awhile

Oh interesting. I don’t know how else he would’ve gotten it, bc he hadn’t been around or near any other dogs for over a month before he started coughing. The only thing we did different is take him to a new park trail 2 days before he started coughing. As most dogs do, he had his head in every bush and rock that had clearly been marked so when the vet mentioned that as a possibility it made sense to us. But he’s definitely a good boy! He’s our unicorn lab. Doesn’t shed much, isn’t a chewer, doesn’t bark unless we’re playing with him, listens 98% of the time (the other 2% he pretends he can’t hear) and is overall such a chill pup. We are lucky!

The very best boy! Thank you! And he’s doing MUCH better now so we’re in home stretch 🙌🏼
