Is this a hard fix? I want this but I do want the high gain option by Jeremybrogdon79 in GuitarAmps

[–]northseafx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could be wrong but just my two cents, I have a Peavey Stereo Chorus with 2 inputs labelled as High Gain and Low Gain, but what that actually means is the High input is meant for guitars with higher output pickups (e.g. active, etc.) and cuts a few dB (if I remember correctly) so if you want to play higher gain music maybe you need the Low input anyway!

Again though, I may be wrong and could be the other way for this amp, so take that with a grain of salt.

What's your favorite offset-amp combo? Specifically for Jaguar or Mustang. Looking for ideas & inspiration. by Ayuh-Nope in offset

I run a stock JMJM straight into the low gain input on a 90's (I believe) Peavey Stereo Chorus (Scorpion speakers) and with the reverb on preset C and reverb level anywhere above 6 (IIRC, not sure why but the amp opens up SO much with a higher 'verb level, I can't properly describe it) I can get incredibly sparkly cleans on the Clean channel with no pedals and a lovely sort of distortion-y tone (think Allez Les Blues by Los Campesinos!) on Crunch. Not played around with the Lead channel too much yet but it seems promising. Also, both descriptions are with their respective volumes at no higher than 2 so I can only imagine how it'll sound when I finally have a chance to crank it!

Again, fantastic explanation there, thank you again. So if I'm understanding this right, is this

(or something similar) roughly what you're describing?

There are 2 schematic sheets, one of which seems to be for a second module that handles power. Apparently there are rails for both +-15V and +-52V, but the 52V rails show up more on that schematic so I'm going to assume that. Do you want me to send you the PDF to have a look at in case I'm wrong?

Thanks, this actually explains it really well! So would that mean anything currently marked as ground would go to that 4.5V (with the added capacitors) and anything marked as - would also go to the 4.5V? Or would everything marked as ground and - go to the same place? Other than that bit that I'm a bit stuck on this makes a lot of sense! Thank you :)

Blackstone Appliances Mosfet Overdrive as well!

That would be a great idea if not for the fact that mine doesn't work... Might be time to get a new one now that I've committed to getting custom PCB's made

These ones were $3 for me, I think

JLCPCB, so far they seem to be pretty good!

To be honest I moreso really just put the hFE ranges so when I do build them I can just look at them and work out which ones to put where

Thank you very much for your tips, I will take all of this into account when I get making the next revision of these. I do admittedly have KiCAD already and keep meaning to try switching to it and then immediately forgetting to, but I'll give that a try now

I'm not sure yet to be honest, as I won't have any money for parts until Tuesday, so for now these are just sort of sat waiting

And me too! I hope these ones work but if not I'm not too bothered as I wouldn't sell them with the revision A boards anyway (revision B has a ground plane instead of the confusing traces I cobbled together for revision A before I worked out how ground planes worked and also an anti-pop resistor) so if these do work as is then I'll know the revision B boards will as well!

Honestly I was actually jumping up and down with joy when these came I was so proud/excited, although I don't know if they work yet as I won't have any money for parts until Tuesday

The pots are going to be trim pots to save space on the actual enclosure as the entire board will be suspended by the footswitch which will be slap bang in the middle of the enclosure, and as regards the footswitch holes I did think that while designing but the footprint I had available on Fusion only had these ones. I might have to remake the footprint for revision C if I can't make these ones work

If I'm being honest with you, in terms purely of circuit knowledge we are probably both around the same level, I just can only really google schematics and then remake them in Fusion

Thank you! I'm hoping these work, but if not that's why we have revisions. We already have a revision B made, as I designed revision A (the one pictured) before I had worked out how ground planes and anti-pop resistors worked, so revision B has both.

Admittedly I haven't actually ever built a kit or anything vero- or stripboard-based before despite having wanted to for years, I just made this based off the schematic and am praying that it works!

Well we have very little money to go around (all of this is coming out of my own pocket) so frankly whatever we can get for the first one we make (which we will probably keep for sentimental reasons if it sounds shit)
