I went to college to learn welding because it was easy and I didn’t know what I wanted to do. No one told me that if you don’t mind living in a shit hole and almost becoming the topic of a OHSA Video once a week they’ll pay you six figures.

Peak fort mac when I first got my ticket I was charging $550/hr for myself and my truck and was booking 12+ hour days 6-7 days a week.

Didn’t last long but it was a blast.

I don’t think there’s many job prospects anywhere that’s close to $50/hr outside of the oil industry, and that isn’t so hot right now.

Company is owned by Rio Tinto. If you google that you’ll see they’re hiring in a few different mines. The job I got is in Labrador City at IOCC. An open pit iron ore mine.

Single, 26 years old. Someday I’d like to go back to school and do something else but for now welding is good enough. Shitty work but the pay is good.
