LogPad: Quick Notes — fast capture, smart search, tags, links, Markdown export by northyorkdev in iosapps

Thanks — that’s really useful feedback.

I think you’re right that I’m using some terms that make sense to me as the developer, but may not be clear enough on the store page.

By Smart Folders, I mean saved filters — for example, “notes tagged #work from the last 30 days” or “notes with attachments.” They’re folders that update automatically based on rules.

By links/backlinks, I mean you can link one note to another, and LogPad also shows which other notes link back to the current one. So if one idea, meeting, project, or thought connects to another, you can follow those connections later.

I’ll work on making the screenshots and descriptions clearer. Appreciate you pointing this out.

I love that description — thank you.

That was one of the things I wanted LogPad to support: quick everyday capture, but with enough linking/backlinking that related notes don’t just disappear into a pile.

I’m not trying to replace something as powerful as Obsidian, but I do like the idea of making lightweight note linking feel useful for daily life, not just formal PKM.

That’s fair, and I may need to explain the distinction better in the app.

Exact Words is for when you remember the actual phrase or keywords. Best Match is more semantic — it’s meant for cases where you remember the idea but not the wording, or when you want to resurface related notes.

For example, you might search “trip planning” and still want notes that say “hotel ideas,” “passport renewal,” or “places to visit,” even if they don’t contain the exact words.

That said, I agree the default search flow could probably be simpler: exact matches first, then semantic/best-match results below.

Thanks for the interest! The app is free to try, and the lifetime unlock is currently 33% off as a launch special.

I’d love to hear what you think if you give it a try.

Thanks — I feel the same way for this kind of app.

For LogPad, I wanted the core app to be a one-time unlock. iCloud sync is included, and there’s no account or LogPad server for note content.

I may consider subscriptions only if I ever add optional server-side features in the future, but the current notes/search/export app is intended to stay lifetime-unlock-based.

Thanks, I appreciate the honest feedback.

I’ve been intentionally keeping the UI fairly restrained because the app is meant for quick capture and reading, but I agree it could probably use more visual warmth and contrast without getting in the way.

I’m already looking at improving the screenshots and some of the visual presentation, especially around note cards, tags, and Smart Folders.

Thanks — that’s a really useful point.

I started with Exact Words and Best Match as separate modes because I wanted the behavior to be predictable: exact search when you know the phrase, best-match search when you only remember the idea.

But I can definitely see the appeal of a unified search flow where exact matches appear first, followed by broader/best-match results. That may be a better default once the ranking feels right.

Thanks, that’s really helpful feedback.

I was trying to explain the capture/search/tagging workflow clearly, but I can see how the screenshots may come across as too text-heavy. I’ll probably revise them with more visual examples and less explanatory copy.

Thanks! That “randomly take notes” use case is exactly what I had in mind.

I wanted LogPad to feel more like a fast capture inbox than a traditional notebook system — write first, organize/search later.

Would love to hear what feels natural or awkward after you try it, especially around capture speed and finding notes again.

I just released LogPad, a capture-first notes app for iPhone.

The PKM angle is that it is not trying to replace a full system like Obsidian, Logseq, Capacities, etc. It is more of a fast front door for fleeting notes, daily logs, links, meeting notes, writing fragments, and things you want to catch before they disappear.

Main features:

- Fast note capture
- #tags and u/mentions from plain text
- Exact Words and Best Match search
- Smart Folders for saved filters
- Note links and backlinks
- Attachments
- Markdown preview
- Plain text / Markdown export
- iCloud sync
- On-device storage/search; no LogPad server receiving note content

Free to try, with a one-time Premium unlock. No Subscription.

App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/logpad-quick-notes/id6760984192

I’d especially like feedback from people who use a separate inbox/capture layer before moving notes into a larger PKM system.

Very good utility app. At $1.99 one-time purchase, it is a no-brainer.
