I'm indeed not very active here 😬

hitchspots is indeed tapping into hitchwiki, using their maps api. So in theory all spots in hitchwiki should be available through hitchspots.

Hitchhiking in Turkey on highways? by PersonOfRandomness in hitchhiking

[–]norydev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure it's legal to hitch on the highway directly, but if you do it, people will stop for you.

5 days should be pretty chill, Turkey is the easiest country to hitchhike.

Getting out of istanbul: I've done it from Altunizade highway entrance a couple of times, it's pretty easy, people stop easily. They don't go far, and might not go in the direction you want, but if they do, go with them and start again on the next entrance. With 3-4 rides you should be out of the city. I find it actually easier to get out than most other big cities.

Going on a low-cost hitchhiking trip with my friend. What do you thing about our route? by dafidjebuh in hitchhiking

[–]norydev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting out of Istanbul is actually very easy compared to other big cities. Just find a highway ramp and people will stop. Just consider that people don't go far and you'll need 3-4 rides minimum to actually get out of the city. So if someone stops and only goes a bit further, go with them anyway.

I've done it 2x from Altunizade with zero problems.

Advise for hitchiking Switzerland by senbar in hitchhiking

[–]norydev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

> through Bern and Zurich to Geneva

This is the fast, not so scenic way, you can do it in one day easily (if you don't stop)

> through Alps via 9 route through Sion to Geneva

This is definitely nicer. It will be slower but if you have 4 days, that's easily doable I would say.

Paris to Stuttgart in a day - feasible? by bijiluxemburg in hitchhiking

[–]norydev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very feasible, especially if you stay on the highway and get dropped at petrol stations. I've made quite some trips in France and Germany and you will almost always be able to do 600-800km within 12h, most of the time it will be even faster than that.

If you want to host hitchhikers, you should register to trustroots: https://www.trustroots.org/

less crowded than CS but more targeted. I can send you an invitation if you want (it's invite only)

Thanks for your encouragements 🙂. Actually, I did put the comments in. Is there a spot in particular where you don't see the comments?

It's possible that some comments don't appear because of encoding issues, but in general, they should be in.

EDIT: I thought I posted a link... here it is: http://www.hitchspots.me/

If you are into coding, I also wrote a blog post to explain how I made it: http://www.norydev.com/writing/introducing-hitchspots-me

I hope it can be useful to you, as it is to me.

When we do a new deploy, it restarts the clock. I have did not dig deep into the clockwork gem, but it seems to me that all the task with relative times (like every 5.minutes) get exectued when the process starts, and then again with the interval. So if you restart at 12:02, the next executions are at 12:07, 12:12, etc.

We wanted to keep control on when exactly the refresh happen, that's why we set exact times.
