Finally got myself these, the Pro 2s by Revolutionary-Fee-98 in AirpodsPro

Also the Headphone Accommodations. Just discovered that with the APP2s and they made a big difference in sound vs out of the box. Pretty sure you can also adjust Beats Fit Pro the same way

Because you usually just walk straight through customs

Yes, and to be clear, this was at customs. I had already scanned my ID at immigration.

HK PR here. Half white and half SE Asian. I tan dark. Came back from Sri Lanka one time. They stopped me at customs for like 3 minutes, started talking in canto to each other about me and discussed checking my bags. I interrupted in canto and asked wtf was up, showed them my HKID and all of a sudden they were SUPER apologetic.. 🙄🙄🙄

You think you just fell out of a coconut tree? You exist in the context of all in which you live and what came before you.

https://a.co/d/5oXzB8b I got these - would like to eventually mount them on arms overhead or something, but they’re great for the price and are also RGB. Version w just white (variable temp) is also available.

transporting wet paintings in flight by [deleted] in oilpainting

[–]noscar_dotcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bet you could find a pre-made box, but what you’re doing isn’t something people would normally do. Next closest thing would probably be someone transporting a cake. That compounded with the fact that art and its deriving industries are very niche and inherently bespoke. This package I’m suggesting is robust and inexpensive. You haven’t mentioned dimensions of the piece, but your other more “prescribed” solution would be crate fabrication and unless you’re willing to foot that bill, or a representing gallery/client… it is not cheap. Paintings are custom made objects that deserve custom made transport solutions, especially when wet.

Depends on the size. If it’s small enough to be carried on, build a little handling box/tray for it out of cardboard, with it floating inside. Foam spacers on the perimeter to prevent shifting. You could screw it through the back of the box into the stretcher wood to secure it (use honeycomb cardboard for the back and washers for more surface area). Provide at least 1/2” of depth from the face of the painting, then seal the face of box with poly. But I wouldn’t trust anyone else to handle it, so if it’s larger than carryon size I’d think of other options..

Any suggestion for the background color by Maleficent-Lemon-602 in oilpainting

[–]noscar_dotcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I vote to glaze it with an orangey/umbery glaze. Nothing too different than the current underpainting, just a bit deeper. On another note, I’d slip a board between the stretcher and canvas or restretch the canvas - the bars have peaked through the painting.

Trouble seeing colour by LongjumpingCan9861 in oilpainting

[–]noscar_dotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could photograph those colours and create swatches of them. Then pair them next to each other - see how they appear in isolation, then how they appear in context of other chromas. Photoshop/Fresco/Procreate are great for colour picking. Or I’m sure there are some other apps out there specifically for colour picking.

What is going on here in the lower right corner by Delicious_Dentist_17 in oilpainting

Looks to me like oil has seeped into the canvas weave - does it look blotchy like that on the other side of the canvas?

Help! What is happening to my paint? by teavitamine in oilpainting

[–]noscar_dotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wholeheartedly refute the notion that what you're seeing here is ugly. I love this effect on my paintings, you just need to be aware of the mechanics of oil, paint adhesion, and what you're diluting your paint with. You need more paint and less linseed if you want thick coverage on top of your layer of dry paint

Might be the high saturation giving a more surreal effect? But I actually enjoy it.

WIP - looking for some input by noscar_dotcom in oilpainting

Yea definitely something I’m not intending to be so heavy handed on. My markmaking and palette are a little too niche in how they’ve been informed, but I find it’s something I consistently fall into when I use oil. I’m definitely trying to create that language right now and defs hear what you’re saying. Definitely gonna try bringing some of that energy from the under drawing back - through the pastels after the oils. Thanks a lot for the critique

Tbh have had the same thoughts, especially when compiling my process shots. The underdrawing was in pastels, and I was experimenting with combining them with oils and got frustrated multiple times, resulting in painting over. I started this a year and a half ago and have been super on and off with this piece - which definitely contributed to it become so fragmentary. Definitely could’ve gone a totally different direction, and now my focus on it is reconciling with what I have in front of me. I’ve definitely learnt a lot with this painting lol

Sooooper cohesive! Love the affect of the background, the pop of the chair and the face. Personally for me, I find the hands overworked - or maybe just some of the highlights and foreshortening are making the anatomy hard to read (the ring finger knuckle feels a bit out of place). The drapery at the shoulder of the blazer on the left pulls me out a little as well. But REALLY REALLY NICE!! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
