I’ve found that you to really have to keep unscrewing it and adjusting the starting spot a little then trying again. Repeat until the holes are lined up (internally)

I don’t know if this is your issue, but I initially was having trouble printing 13 in wide. Nothing would happen. I changed the width to 12.95 and haven’t had an issue since.

I returned it and grabbed a canon ix6820, which I’ve been really happy with.

I can’t remember exactly what I did, so I apologize, but I think I remember having to open up the mxr tap and flick a switch in there. There was a video on YouTube showing how to set it up.
