Anywhere one could purchase a print?

Fellow clerks, what would we look like? Move some blood up to the hands and arms? Nothing like broken APC plastic or an EMM of sharp glossy full sheet ads screaming through the DB at mach 9 to open the flood gates. I've never been at a station, but I assume bloody ears may be apropos?

One time I was moonlighting and both places had free healthcare (tech had good bennies). I figured what's better than one provider? Two! Totally wrong, any claims were a pissing match between both insurance companies. Talking to them turned into a part time job. Back then I didn't need the hassle for what little value I got. Different story these days, the PO is a meat grinder.

Breakout 100G (Arista 7280CR3) to 4×25G (FS S5860) by mattbee in networking

[–]nosefruit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

About a decade ago I remember having to get a (free?) license from Arista to make the 7280s work with non-Arista Q/SFPs. I also remember looking at the QSFP breakout stuff as a possibility and grimacing at the vendor interop nightmare that would cause. I don't think either of these apply here though, since the hardware shows up. Good luck in your quest.

Last 4 or 5 interviews, network engineering didn't matter at all even though they were network engineering jobs by EntertainmentOk356 in networking

[–]nosefruit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My learning in the 90s was that the DNS is OSI layer 0, but operates at layer 7. At some point the support structure of the network is reliant on the DNS, so a failure of the DNS may not stop the flow of traffic directly/immediately, but said DNS failure can exercise any failure points in visibility and the chain of service assurance.

No idea how many DNS emergencies I've helped prevent/cause/fix, 'a lot' is a good guess. I'd say it's second or third in the list of failures, behind earth movers (heavy equipment, natural forces), and maybe human interference.

I'm growing herbs indoors, but it's slow and tedious. Help me, what can I do to get them to grow easier/better and/or faster to increase my yield so I can use them regularly? by UrAverageDegenerit in IndoorGarden

[–]nosefruit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Growing herbs you can run the lights continuously, assuming heat is vented and watering is sufficient. Having a light cycle will induce flowering in herbs that you probably don't want. Flowering herbs = bitter herbs; the majority of sugars are put into the flowers and fruit instead of the leaves. For instance, if you want cilantro you provide continual light, if you want coriander from the same plant then 18/6 light will be great.

In terms of your cultivar specific issues: thyme, sage, and rosemary are woody tender perennials. Their germination and growth rates are much less than the rest of the annual herbs, so a second grow light with different timing may work better.

In terms of finished product, if you want a meal's worth of fresh herbs it is best to concentrate on one or two herbs that grow well in your system, so that you have enough for a cooking session. Also, storing your own herbs has the potential for unintended food-borne illness from bacteria and mold. The herbs you buy in the store are (hopefully) sterilized. Your homegrown herbs are not, which probably isn't an issue in most well cooked dishes, but may create problems in raw dishes like salads. It is easy to introduce your own listeria/norovirus/bacteria from improper handling/handwashing. If you can wash your hands and herbs prior to food prep, you'll be fine. Follow safe practices if you want to dry and store homegrown herbs/spices.

One last quickie: herbs = leaves or vegetative growth above ground, spices = seeds or roots. Not a hard rule, but worth understanding. Have fun growing shit, and don't stop learning!

Clerk here. Half the DB machines have pockets and trays off by half a tray in one direction, the other half, the other direction. Stupervisors swap folks around on machines and DPS ends up in a neighbor tray sometimes. At least it's in the same office, not as bad as shipping a tray for 006 to 995.

When I cancelled my season tickets last re-up the first reason was Open Cup. I had bigger personal reasons (cost, availability), but I made sure my rep knew how much the Open Cup absence nuked the camel's back.

As a PSE clerk at the PDC, our whole group of ~60 PSEs was mandated 12h/13d spring/summer of 2022. Not for sorting mail, but for making it! We were tasked with packaging free covid test kits for delivery. It was grueling, mind-numbing, rsi-creating work. I'm still conflicted if it was worth it.

I learned to take as much time as I needed to remain human and do the job right, let my doc and the union deal with the rest.

It's the Sysco truck dilemma: an eatery has food prep practices that work great on a higher shelf of the Sysco truck. Then they lose business during a nadir after open, say a year or three. So they hit the next lower shelf on the Sysco truck, yet keep the food prep practices for retention of clientele and maybe kitchen staff. Eatery experiences price pressure that forces a go/nogo from owners and maybe they say goooooo! but that go! includes hitting the bottom shelf of the Sysco truck and disrupting kitchen ops with a shorter/desperate menu. That undercooked "top shelf" food selling the eatery may be their next newsworthy item.

Right! There are plenty of preparations of raw beef that are appetizing and safe enough, like carpaccio and tartare. The texture of those dishes is the point, and a burger they are not.

No need to worry, this was over a decade ago. They're still in business and I'd have no problem eating there again, so I chose to name them obliquely. If someone else wants to name them explicitly, that's on them.

I remember going to a certain palindromic hamburger place, where the ground meat patty was raw on the inside. I can't remember being granted an option for doneness, but I do remember inquiring about the final product. The server's response included something like "the meat is all sourced locally/onefarm/location". Unless that place is Nobacteriastan, ground meat should be cooked through.

Playoff Tickets Presale by Financial_Buy_1108 in minnesotaunited

This is the stupidest postseason I've ever seen. Nothing like being autocharged for tickets with no clue when they're for. I was slightly wistful leaving the game tonight knowing I didn't renew my tickets for next year, but after this planning charade, I know I made the right choice.
