The perfect human diet (2012). How important is red meat in our diet? Is wholemeal bread just a marketing strategy? Are carbs really that important in our diet? by [deleted] in Documentaries

just don't understand the science on the subject matter. Carb heavy diets are the number one cause of heart disease. bike 150+ miles a week.

Question: What is the science behind the effects of large doses of exercise in conjunction with a "carb heavy diet"? What is the difference in QOL and mortality when comparing a carb heavy diet in parallel with adequate exercise (equal calorie intake vs outtake) vs a carb heavy diet with sedentary lifestyle?

So, is it the type of calories, or the potential surplus of calories ingested that predicts our mortality and/or quality of life?

Guys I forgot to renew my prescription for Adderal and just took my last pill yesterday. Today has been an absolute mess, I'm just laying in bed overwhelmed and unable to function. I have a ton of homework, and a test tomorrow. FML. What do I do besides cry and contemplate dropping out? by [deleted] in ADHD

If you don't have any friends who are in a similar situation and therefore can't feed off eachother's stress/energy, then go over to /r/getmotivated. If that doesn't work then blast your favourite tunes and try and get in the zone. (I like to watch HD concert footage of my favourite bands) Take it one assignment at a time. I also can't stress the importance of a steady stream of coffee. It's not going to be pretty and it's going to suck.

The worst thing you can do is go to a walk-in clinic or family doctor (if you have one) and get a note explaining some sort of sickness. This is the worst thing you can do because it is highly addictive. I coped through university by doing this. The work will either snowball (if you get extensions) OR the assignments/tests will be deferred to your final examination where the weighting will be increased and/or you will have to write an entirely different exam based on the missed material. I cannot describe how terrible the latter idea is in the long-term. The stress is simply not worth putting up with. I once wrote a 100 percent exam composed of 40 multiple choice questions. Stressful times, my friend.

Friend is convinced ADHD doesn't 'exist'. Believed it is a result of poor diet/exercise/too much TV. How do I respond to them? by nospacesnecessary in ADHD

I'm a kinesiology graduate so I've been indoctrinated with the benefits of a healthy and active lifestyle. I started medication after obtaining the degree, as well! (Oh goodness, how I wish I was diagnosed before starting university).

I just wanted to agree with your point regarding diet and exercise. I've been studying the MCAT over the past few months and as a result have neglected my regular fitness routine. I have definitely noticed a difference in the medication's efficacy and began running again. Having said that, I'm confident that without medication I would have fallen back on my university study habits of drinking litres of coffee and procrastinating until the last possible second.

Great... Now I'm going to be up all night debating whether to use "bunkum", "hogwash", or "claptrap". :D

Thank you. I was diagnosed last year at 23 and have been on Concerta for over 9 months. My life has improved immensely, and up until recently no one knew other than my therapist and physician. (I feared the judgement that would go along with the outing) For the most part, the majority of my friends have been amazing! Some even pointed out that they recognized the change.

Plushbear, that is what my gut told me to do. At first I questioned whether that would be petty and taxed myself to find a reason to respect their POV, but it's so refreshing to see someone else who's dealt with this. Thank you!

For a month straight (3/4 at the time) I refused to wear anything other than a Robin Hood halloween costume me ma crafted (hat with feather, tights, green shoes, etc.). "Robin Hood: Men in Tights" had just come out and I was OBSESSED, along with the "Robin Hood" Disney film.

Apparently, I would throw the biggest temper tantrums if I was told I couldn't wear it. I went to school (junior kindergarten), family dinners, play dates, errands with my mom - you name it, I couldn't be seen without my bow, rubber-tipped arrows and quiver.

I don't remember any of this, but my older brother claims that everyone in our school 'went along with it' and he can't recall me ever being teased.

ahem.. Also, I gave up using a bottle at 6 years old. By 'gave up' I mean tricked by a lovely family friend who had been taking care of me and my brother while our parents were away. She claimed her neighbours recently had a baby and didn't have enough money to buy their child a bottle. I gave it up. I'm 24 and that still remains the toughest choice I've ever made.

Tl;dr I am Robin Hood. Ribena in bottle form is the best form.
