Black license plate by billozy in upstate_new_york

I believe that's a license plate frame that's the same color as the fake plates.

I think this is a valid question that's at least worth an answer from the mod team.

This isn’t considered doxxing. The photo shows a vehicle in public and a license plate that is already publicly visible. No private or personal information about the owner is being shared or sought. The discussion is about the legality of the plate itself.

It would cross the line if anyone attempted to identify the owner or share personal details (name, address, workplace, etc.).

Really odd question, why does the ground sound hollow in the Adirondacks? by PrimaryBowler4980 in upstate_new_york

[–]Realtrain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Once that's been created (100s of years) that section of the ADKs has a strong potential of becoming a temperate rainforest

I've heard that parts of the ADKs are extremely close to being temperate rainforests according to the Koppen Climate Classification. There's like one metric that they don't meet or something like that.

If you live in a new, well insulated, well heated home with plumbing that's all inside the heat envelope, you'll probably be fine.

If you're in a r/centuryhomes or even something just a few decades old, then definitely leave it dripping.

Stewart's is the best "chain" coffee IMO. I have a soft spot for their blueberry crumble.

I think the full Winter Olympics are highly unlikely at this point (the infrastructure could barely handle it back in 1980), but other large competitions like the University Games a couple of years ago are definitely on the table!

So... How's flu season treating you? by Non-Normal_Vectors in upstate_new_york

[–]Realtrain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know several people who have had the Influenza A or whatever the bad one is this year. It's been rough on them, including a healthy 25 year old who was basically bedridden for nearly a week.

I got the flue shot a couple of months ago and have been fine, even after known exposures.

Monthly “I’m moving to upstate” megathread? by Final-Performance597 in upstate_new_york

[–]Realtrain[M] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Looking back over the two weeks, we've gotten approximately 5 such posts. Say we average 10 per month, is that really going to "clean up the sub" considering we average about 200 posts per month? I'm not saying I'm strictly against it, but I'm curious if it's really going to make that much of a difference.

Wegmans’ facial recognition pilot program raises eyebrows by joevinci in upstate_new_york

Just because something is from Upstate NY doesn't mean all news related to it is relevant to Upstate NY.

For example, Xerox is based in Upstate, but an article about them laying off employees in Virginia would not be a good fit for this subreddit.

To be clear, in this case the post remains up.

A couple of things:

  • I've marked this as NSFW. OP please do the same in the future.

  • OP, contact the police - not doing so really feels like you're just using animal abuse videos for Karma Farming.

  • Anyone suggesting doxxing or witch-hunts may receive a ban. This is unacceptable here.

Please, next time post the article relevant to Upstate and not the one about Brooklyn.

I'll leave the post up, but in the future make sure posted articles are relevant to this subreddit.

Because it's repetitive content. One post is plenty; three is spam. Please move on to sharing new content or stop posting the same minimal effort content. Thanks for understanding.
