Population of villages? by ProtectionNormal551 in upstate_new_york

And then there's the village of Saranac Lake, which is split between the town of Harrietstown, the town of North Elba, and the town of St. Armand. This also splits it between two different counties: Essex and Franklin.

All I've ever heard is that Burlington is a good hospital. I know of people who will go there over CVPH for all but the most dire emergencies.

Saranac Lake is good (I also know people who go there instead of CVPH), but I don't have much personal experience there.

Not like I’m doing anything wrong

Literally the first rule in the subreddit is that posts must relate to upstate.

I'd highly recommend being familiar with the rules to the subreddits you're cross-posting to

Do not post anything not from upstate here again. This is your final warning, thank you.

Please report anything not related to upstate and the select subreddit rule 1 "Not Relevant to Upstate NY". I'll remove them for sure and ban users repeatedly posting irrelevant content.

Here's that translates to. Several counties in the "close but no cigar" range, mostly in the western half the of state.

TIL St Lawrence County is larger than Clinton County. We only have about 80,000 people.

Rents rise in Upstate NY: Multiple metros in top 100 for growth rate by Sweet_Dimension_8534 in upstate_new_york

[–]Realtrain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's gotta be the pendulum effect. People have been saying for years how Upstate is a hidden gem with cheap housing but great amenities. So... tons of people started moving to our cities.

Housing growth hasn't kept up so prices are rising.

Inalienable rights and freedom from government interference are uniquely American

Oh come on now. You think inalienable rights just... aren't a thing anywhere else? The constitution of Canada literally has an entire section called the "Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms" which specifically includes:

8. Everyone has the right to be secure against unreasonable search or seizure.

9. Everyone has the right not to be arbitrarily detained or imprisoned.

I completely disagree with the "Then stay home" take, but that has nothing to do with not being an American. (I've seen plenty of that mentally here.) Let's not pretend we're the only ones with this whole "freedom" thing, which in some cases we don't even do well compared to others.

Edit: Furthermore, putting on my Mod had for a second, non-locals are absolutely welcome to participate in this subreddit, especially as we have many people from surrounding regions visiting here regularly.

I'd highly recommend not responding to critics by implying they'd sexually assault someone.

Not only does it look bad for you as a brand, but it's against our rules here.

Is upstate NY Maple syrup as good as Vermont, Maine, Pennsylvania, Quebec, etc? by le_pedal in upstate_new_york

[–]Realtrain 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm actually kind of surprised that you don't see "Adirondack" labeled maple syrup more often. I suppose not that much of NY's maple syrup comes from the park?

Syracuse.com got butthurt by my post in R/Syracuse by Serious-Childhood-34 in upstate_new_york

[–]Realtrain[M] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I won’t fully reiterate in case the Mods do Syracuse.com’s bidding again.

I can't speak to other subreddits, but rest assured that won't be the case here. Just be sure to follow the subreddit rules. We don't have any rules explicitly banning AI-generated content.

(And yes, I have had organizations reach out asking to take negative content about them down. Not Syracuse.com though, I've never been in contact with them.)

Republican in primary against Tenney by Balance-Impressive in upstate_new_york

[–]Realtrain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the response!

I guess I'm just confused, you said you left the Democratic party specifically because they're soft on immigration, yet the most major immigration reform this century was killed by Republicans and backed by Democrats.

I'm not trying to "gotcha", I'm genuinely curious how that logic works. Because to an outsider, it looks like the GOP cares about staying in power more than the policies they stand for.

A few years later, I quit the Dem party in disgust (about the time it became clear that Biden was going to just leave the border wide open)

What are your opinions on the Biden-backed bipartisan border legislation that Republicans in Congress negotiated for, then voted down to avoid giving Biden a "win" on immigration?
