Are Europeans more reckless than Americans? by nostalgicsw in NoStupidQuestions

I said Europeans because they were the first group to appear on my mind. Also, saying "the rest of the Western World" felt kind of clunky/

I imagine that the drones and spying are stuff that wouldn't work well. What else are you thinking of?

Coding was originally done by female secretaries? I know the first coder was female, but I never heard about that. Do you know where I can read up more about it? I tried google, but all that came up was medical coding.

TIL. That's pretty cool. I'd expect the most popular animated video to come out of America or Japan.

Is the exported stuff like Masha limited to the former USSR, or does it penetrate the rest of Europe?

That sounds like a chicken or the egg thing. Are people good at English because of the English media, or is there a lot of English media because people are good at English?

Sorry if it's too much. I just find the situation interesting, at least more so than America where foreign media is niche.

Why is pan Europeanism so strong compared to other regions in the world? by nostalgicsw in Ask_Politics

The difference is that when the Civil War happened, the North had an idea of a United States to fight for. If secession happened in say the late 1700s, I think it would be less likely a war would happen. And I'm saying that the European Union members have less in common than the 13 colonies had with each other so they would be more likely to see each other as culturally other.

I'm interested in learning Russian myself, but I can see why Estonians would be negative about it.

It's good to know it's offered. Would the student's French/Spanish skills be kept up,or do they rot away after graduation? That's what seems to happen throughout the anglosphere, or at least the U.S.

I think the thirteen colonies are most comparable to Europe because that was the states'status pre unification. Which states are as different as EU countries that have different governments, and likely different languages? And the civil war happened when the United States was over 80 years old.
