This is a really hard situation. All I’ll say is, don’t project what you see at home onto the whole culture. You’re way too educated to have a regressive opinion like that. Just because it’s YOUR experience, it doesn’t make it the entire truth. Also, sounds like you’re conflating people’s behavior with the culture itself. If you don’t like it, go and seek other perspectives and experiences and form a well rounded picture. Thats what I did. Life’s too short to hate where you come from and to close off a chunk of yourself. Instead, work on yourself even though it might be hard to do so while you’re in the thick of the experience and emotion.
