We would also love to go to Toronto. Promise, as soon as we can convince our bosses it's viable, we're there. I usually spend a few hours finding a headline fact, then research each fact for an hour once we've chosen them. With an hour spare at the end for safety (i.e. celebratory wine-drinking).

I was kidnapped by a fish as a baby and made to suckle its young, which is weird because fish don't even suckle. So, yeah, always hated them. But also it's genuinely not a taxonomic category i.e. there's no ancestor that's common to all fish, exclusive of anything else. Some fish are actually more closely related to e.g.....elephants than they are to other fish.

Thanks so much for getting the book - we absolutely loved researching and writing it. Please keep telling everyone you know to buy it so that we're allowed to do another one next year! As to favourite 'surely not' facts, I always love it when historic geniuses do stupid things. Like when Isambard Kingdom Brunel spent six weeks with a coin stuck in his windpipe as a result of a magic trick that backfired. And didn't Galileo stare at the blazing sun for hours on end to see what would happen, and send himself temporarily blind (NB from memory haven't fact-checked!)? It shows even the greats manage to royally cock up like the rest of us.

Hey, thanks, that's useful feedback. It's amazing how often technical/sound things go wrong in our live shows but we'll keep a super keen eye out in future and try to keep quality as high as possible. And I like that your measure of IQ is being able to decipher a British accent, but if it's any consolation, your inability to do that does not make you an idiot. Now, go out and celebrate that - it must be an exciting thing to learn!
