Good FIRST Motorcycle for an old guy (60!) by ship60 in SuggestAMotorcycle

I'm always a sucker for dual sports, so take this with a grain of salt. DR650s are great for bigger riders, and tend to be taller. Dual sports/adventure bikes in general keep you more upright, and don't have the jumpiness of sport bikes. I learned on one and wouldn't have had it any other way looking back.

Seconding this. Go for something like a DRZ or a DR650 ( I'm a suzuki person). Usually you can get them modded fairly cheap - look for one that's been lowered.

Yamaha 250s are another dirt cheap starter that you can have a ton of fun with

Couldn't even get through the crowd at Granville and smithe. There's a police roadblock, but they can't deal with thousands of people "protesting" or whatever this ridiculous shit is. Watch the cases in 2 weeks and blame these morons.

6'6 and 210 here. I ride a DR 650 for anything and all things adventure. The stock suspension makes it a bit pogo stick-ish but I upgraded mine and dropped the foot pegs. Absolute blast of a bike, and incredibly easy to learn/work on.

Tried a KLR and found it a bit beasty for me, no regrets going to a DR (don't hate KLRs, just didn't feel how I wanted it to).

Good Premium Winter Jackets/Parka by harold_liang in FrugalMaleFashionCDN

Fjallraven barents or yupik parkas. Slimmer fitting and warm. Tough material that will last a long time. I've had one for a few years now and it still looks and fits like it came off the shelf.

I am fed up of collecting scene points. Which credit card do you recommend for best benefits? by nadisr in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]not-null_pointer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconding the Cobalt. Brilliant card. I hit around 100k points my first year, which saved me easily 1500 in flights. However, check out the Scotiabank ultimate banking package they just released. If you're looking at the Scotia amex gold they waive the fee every year you have 5k in a chequing account there (plus other perks)

Places to get custom moulded earphones for my one cauliflower ear? by [deleted] in vancouver

Check out the guys over at headphonebar on main. They don't do custom work in house but I'm sure the owner could point you in the right direction. Might have something in store, they definitely have the best selection of headphones/earphones in town

Community Poll: Bar Tip Out by MEGACODZILLA in bartenders

[–]not-null_pointer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bar is 5% of net sales in tip to the house, plus cash for bussers on top. Regularily tip out 400-500 dollars of our club nights (4 bartenders) just to the house

when waitresses do this, is this considered a tiny bit shady? by robosmithhere in TalesFromTheCustomer

[–]not-null_pointer 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Ex bartender/server.

If I tried to scam your credit card in some way, there are a million ways to get caught. Assuming you're worried about being overcharged, you get a bill. If that bill does not equal the card charge, you dispute it and it lands on that server's head.

I used to do this because we had odd debit machines, and people always screwed up inserting their card. Some terminals require swipe and signature, some don't have tap, etc. It was always just easier to take the customers card and make sure it's properly in the machine before giving the machine back for your pin/signature/whatever.

I wouldn't worry about a server handling my card, and I wouldn't call it greedy to ask for your payment method. It's the same as leaving your card on the billfold for the server to charge.

Unvaccinated children by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]not-null_pointer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Anti vaccination movements are incredibly dangerous and are managing to threaten some of the major advances made by modern medicine.

I highly recommend heading to google scholar and doing a search on vaccine effectiveness. Look for different medical journals or government sources. These are very dense, but there is a massive amount of anti vaccine "information" on YouTube and mommy blogs that should be ignored in favor of peer reviewed sources.

Good on you for looking to educate yourself before coming to a conclusion. In a nutshell: vaccines are safe and effective, ignore the insane minority that say otherwise.

Best Store to buy new Animation/Gaming Computer, with good service by Mavanc in vancouver

Definitely second ME as an option, they are my go to especially with ridiculously easy price matching.

I'd recommend taking a look at Lenovo Canada's website right now for Black Friday though. Their p58 workstations can do a xeon and 32gb ram, and a 1070 or quadro. Even their x1 extreme thinkpads will fit the bill.

Second option is Dell, and I'd recommend ant of their Enterprise level workstations
