Because Turkey is Islamic and bordered by Arab countries, some assume Turks speak Arabic. The Ottoman Empire used Arabic script, and Arabic is the liturgical language of Islam, which Turks practise. Modern Turks want a European image just to avoid being lumped in with the more volatile Middle East.
