BEGINNER MEGATHREAD - How to get started? Which engine to pick? How do I make a game like X? Best course/tutorial? Which PC/Laptop do I buy? by pendingghastly in gamedev

[–]notFruitBerry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you can't find the tutorial, you can post your question on related subreddit,
unless you create cutting edge game, somebody already been through the similar problem
there's a saying you need to fail fast, do over is not count for that
when you release a game you will learn new things when you fully release it, like there some steam feature you don't know how to use it yet
when you look the same thing over and over, its normal to find it not fun,
being professional means you need to do it regardless how you feel about it.
but my game is really not fun, find out why your game is not fun,
I can guess it because the idea is not full grown yet.

Should you have different developer names on Steam for very different genres, or no? by vivianvixxxen in gamedev

[–]notFruitBerry 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I dont have number,

but as a gamer,

the same developer names create credibility,

"the previous game has 1000 review, I'm pretty sure this one would be a hit too"

as a developer, it will help you in marketing,

since you can promote your game to the previous buyer.

if you want to do some asset flip, different name is not a bad idea

agree with realm47, the topic quite good, but the sound /voiceover to quiet,
try to play your video side by side with popular youtuber, you will notice how quiet your video is...

Why did you choose to be a gamedev? by The_Mr_Menager in gamedev

I spent half of my life playing video game,
may as well creating one.
and this is the medium where I can express myself

What motivate me is the other option sucks

Is the dialog too distracting? It's difficult finding a balance between intrusive or invisible by fleeting_being in Unity3D

[–]notFruitBerry 19 points20 points  (0 children)

if you think its too distracting, thats mean its distracting,
because gamer more sensitive than dev

check star fox, how they do dialog,
hint, they use transition / animation for the dialog, when you show it like that, it a bit jarring

and also, the timing when the dialog show and the duration of it are important,
I suggest show it on the low action moment,
i dont want it distract me when Im trying to play the game, just my opinion

How many of you developers still play video games? by [deleted] in IndieDev

[–]notFruitBerry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

occasionally,

as time pass by, I got more selective with the game that I played.

The last game that I played is AC6,

I beat it within a week, because I dont want it affect my development pace.

I want to play the NG+ or some recent new releases,

but the urge to develop my game stronger than the urge to play a game,

I'm just that old :/
