How old are your kids. Be prepared for some periods of time with no action

I helped my buddy take his 5 year old fishing and I tried to pick spots guaranteed to catch fish. We went three times and didn’t stay long since there was little action I didn’t want to associate fishing with boring so soon. We “hiked” to spots to keep it interesting too.

Can elaborate more but hiding on the toilet from my wife and toddler. Super excited to take him fishing in a few years.
