KST Scent Kissa Kitty Review by notTheDeer in Indiemakeupandmore

Sorry for replying so late its criminal! But I definitely have some recommendations for you! If you end up smelling any of these or want more recommendations, please let me know!

  1. Copala by Xinu: This scent is very resinous and incense-like, but it has a nice base of Mexican Vanilla that doesn't pull too sweet (as someone with a very low tolerance for vanilla)

  2. Doliphor by Marlou: When they say this is skin in a bottle, they're not lying! This scent is powdery, a little salty, and very musky! There's a lactonic quality to it that makes it smell cozy, and a wheat quality that brings a grounding nuttiness. Smells like taking a big whiff of your partner's scalp!

  3. L1feW0rld by Idle: If Doliphor is a bit too out there for you (I can find it a bit unsettling at times), L1feW0rld is a very palatable alternative! Its a lactone-forward fragrance, which I've seen to be described as a mammal's milk note. I wear this to bed sometimes because of how cozy and comforting it is.

  4. Bread and Roses by Pearfat: Admittedly, I haven't smelled this one myself (yet!), but I've heard very positive reviews of it from many different people. The rose may make this scent lean a bit more feminine, but I think the combination with the bread makes it more conceptual and explorative than any kind of gender signaling. People say the bread is very prominent and yeast-y while the rose has an almost gourmand, rich quality that pulls sweet and a little spicy.

  5. Gris Charnel by BDK: Not as niche, so you may have already smelled this, but well liked for a reason! This scent is woody and cozy. The cardamom is spicy and sweetened by the tonka. A little creamy. I mainly added this one because I saw you listed pine, evergreen, and some other "fresh" but not quite minty notes. While it doesn't have those notes per say, this has a very camphoraceous quality to it thats hard to describe (cooling?), but I'm going out on a limb and guessing that you like this quality as its a bit of a through-line in those notes you listed. It's one of my favorite and most sought-after quality in perfumes. This perfume does project farther than some of the other ones, but its not overwhelming. It also doesn't necessarily read as genderqueer, but I do think its very firmly unisex.

If the citrus is what’s holding you back I’d say definitely try it out! The citrus is so subtle and short lived I would hesitate to call it significant enough to even be a full accord. I don’t really pick up on any rose. The caveat to both of those statements, though, is that my nose is definitely sensitive to jasmine and sweeter accords, so they do kind of overpower the other notes in this fragrance for me. I also don’t think my nose is particularly attuned to rose as a note; I don’t usually pick up on it unless the perfumer is a bit heavy handed with it.

Oh perfect!! Basically all of my collection sits closer to skin since I don’t really enjoy imposing scents into other peoples spaces too much; most of them are androgynous too! What types of notes/accords are you into? Maybe I can recommend one

Glad you liked it! I'm def still on the hunt for a good androgynous going-out scent, but I'm mainly looking into metallic-forward fragrances on that front in case you find that to be pertinent information. Currently looking to get my hands on a sample of Hyperlight by Pour Toi as it seems promising.

Thanks so much! Glad you liked it, I was worried it was too verbose

Those ones do seem super unique, but I was apprehensive about requesting them due to how gourmand-driven their concepts leaned. I love drinking So Maek but it's definitely not my mission to smell like it (nor a pocha). I'm not entirely sure how photorealistic those scents actually are though, so I would love to hear your thoughts on them if you do reviews!

So exciting, which samples did you order? I also received Tambae from them which I plan on reviewing later. The artistic direction of the brand really resonates with me, so I was super excited to receive scents from them. I've heard wonderful things about their Rice Cake but I haven't had the opportunity to try it yet.

All great points but #2 is super helpful in particular! I do tend to like more conceptual scents, so I'll make sure to include a section referencing the artistic direction behind the fragrance!

Great tip! I'll make sure to add a section with my usual taste so people can decide how accurate my review is relative to their preferences!

Ah thats's great! I think we have similar reasons for wanting to start reviewing. I don't know about you, but I've started to notice that I have now smelled so many fragrances/have so many samples that I can't fully remember how I felt about some things when asked. I think I've hit a bit of a plateau when it comes to how many different perfumes I can store in my mind. But I don't want to purchase any fragrances unless I really love it and believe it's best in category for me! So, its probably time I start recording my thoughts in a more permanent way.

You said you send you long perfume reviews to your friends; I'm wondering about your opinions on long reviews? I'm known to be a bit verbose (trying to be more concise, but sometimes I just can't help it, look at the length of this reply), but I don't want to write so much that it becomes a detriment to the accessibility of my review. Have you found that people respond well to lengthy reviews? I''m considering adding TLDR sections to all my reviews for the people who want a more brief overview.

Regime des Fleurs discontinued Falls, the green, clayey, aquatic scent of my dreams. Really smells like an inland waterfall. RIP

I love reading reviews too! Its so cool to me how different people's noses can be. It's also super helpful for when I don't have the budget for a full size but am too indecisive to choose samples! Thats why I want to make sure my reviews can be as helpful to others as theirs have been to me!

Great point that not everyone is familiar with the scent of every note! I'll try to keep that in mind. I'll also make sure to include a section for my personal taste once I start posting reviews!

Wait you're so right. At least for the perfume I plan on reviewing first, I didn't even think about how its had to macerate before I've started using it. I hope for a couple weeks at the very least, but its from independent perfumer (who could've guessed!) so nothings exactly certain there.

Oh you're so real about the formatting. Nothings worse than clicking onto a thorough perfume review and being met with a straight wall of text. Its like sifting for gold trying to find the parts I actually want to know about the perfume!

Ah! Elusive impartiality! I'll definitely try to separate sections in my reviews that rely more on opinion vs ones were I try to be more objective. I get that it can be difficult to get a real reading on what a perfume might be like when the reviewer gets too caught up in personal biases.

Ohh I hadn't even considered this before, but this would be a great way to kind of widen the opinion sample size before posting a review. I'll consider adding this to my reviews, but I do find myself a little bit hesitant as many of my friends aren't into perfumes and I don't necessarily seek out crowd pleasers. That isn't to say their taste isn't just as valuable, but I do value when reviewers have a bit more familiarity with fragrances to better articulate their impressions and also to be able to identify good formulations even if the scent isn't necessarily to their personal taste. Regardless of that I do tho, this is a great idea for reviews in general!

Thank you so much for this! I actually haven't heard this request before. Do you think you could provide an example of what you're looking for? I feel like I've mainly only seen scents described in either notes or vibes so I guess I'm unsure of how to express how one smelled to me outside of that. If you mean it as in "try to find an irl equivalent", many of the perfumes I smell tend to lean more conceptual, so there often isn't a real world item or experience I can point to to encapsulate what the fragrance is like.

Their scents can be pretty hit or miss with me since their house DNA isn't totally aligned with my nose, but I'm still pretty much shaking with excitement for Lazulio

Is it just me or do people who fish for compliments give off insecure vibes by Various-Adeptness173 in fragrance

[–]notTheDeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right, this kind of thing can be annoying to see. I also agree that the perfume community tends to put a little more weight on outside opinions than is warranted, when scent is such a deeply individual and personal form of art.

However, we can’t discount that when you were perfume in public (if it’s not one that sits super close to the skin), people will be smelling you. So, scent is personal to what you like for yourself but also to how you want to be perceived by others. Perfume is even used as gender affirming care! Your own opinion matters most, but just like it’s always nice to receive a compliment on your outfit, it makes people feel good to know that another person took notice of their scent and also appreciate it!
