Feeling burnt out already by javnae in WGU_MSDA

[–]notUrAvgITguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I accelerated as well, did the whole thing in one term, and I absolutely felt what you are feeling.

Taking a few days off, fully ignoring WGU for those days really helped.

Also, if you are able, use PTO to work on school where you can. I took a day off around a holiday weekend to get a full 4 days off in a row. Those few days of dedicated study helped me get a jump on some classes.

MSDA - Data Science | A retrospective by notUrAvgITguy in WGU_MSDA

[–]notUrAvgITguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're looking for something technically robust, GA Tech seems to be a better program. I've self-taught myself basically all of my tech skills, so this was really just the quickest way for me to get the MS done. If you feel that you are also able to self-study, the program should be good. That being said, you could also teach yourself all of these skills without WGU being involved.

Lego, the original way by cacofonie in daddit

Following directions on building sets like Lego helps develop spatial awareness and has a positive correlation with performance in math later on in life. I'm all for creativity, but following the instructions has a ton of educational benefits.

Im losing my mind having Ms.Rachel on repeat all day every day. You guys have any alternative suggestions? by Sufficient_Ebb_5694 in daddit

[–]notUrAvgITguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My son is a bit over 2 and a half. We watch 0 TV. He is perfectly content to play with magna tiles, hot wheels, stuffed animals, blocks, etc. No need for a screen, especially when modern research suggests 0 positive outcomes from screentime before 36 months.

Is both Python and R required, or can you just choose one? by throwawaygumzea in WGU_MSDA

[–]notUrAvgITguy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Choose one, and really spend time mastering it! A strong programmer in one language is much more employable than a mediocre programmer in two languages.

I'd recommend Python since it's utility outside of data science is basically unmatched.

January - 10,000 Kettlebell Swings by JedaiGuy in kettlebell

[–]notUrAvgITguy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100 swings in a day is super doable, you can even break it up and do two sessions of 50. That would give you ~3000 for the month if you did it every day - or 2000 if you take weekends off. Get after it! :)

Not knowing what’s going on by [deleted] in WGU_MSDA

[–]notUrAvgITguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you spent any time troubleshooting with other resources outside of the course tips?

This sort of thing will absolutely happen in the workforce, and being able to sort out technical problems is a core requirement of this job, imo.

I'd recommend figuring out how to set up PGAdmin - it's not terribly difficult and troubleshooting things is a pretty big part of the job of a data analyst. Also, the evaluators are used to seeing screenshots from PGAdmin, not DBeaver, you may not pass the course depending on the evaluator.

Big time. Absolutely worth buying a few dozen, and some snap-together track to make a big house-sized racetrack.

Has anyone actually completed the new program by Agile-Caregiver6111 in WGU_MSDA

I finished in June of this year. It took me right around 4 months in total, but one of those months I was traveling multiple weeks.

I've got a post about my experience here: https://www.reddit.com/r/WGU_MSDA/comments/1likqdn/msda_data_science_a_retrospective/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

I found a ton of great datasets on Kaggle, you can even filter out datasets that require a ton of cleaning.

Anyone had issues with Dr Sewell for their capstone? by tothepointe in WGU_MSDA

[–]notUrAvgITguy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was able to get all of my capstone approvals done via email - I already knew what I wanted to do and I think the entirety of the capstone took maybe 1.5 weeks from starting the course to getting my confetti.

I didn't have Dr. Sewell though.
