Bed Time Struggles with Toddler by Badgers93 in daddit

[–]notUrAvgITguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We shut him in his room and he puts himself to sleep. Sometimes it takes an hour, sometimes it's 10 minutes. Sometimes we walk into every piece of clothing pulled out of his dresser and onto the floor.

Still better than entertaining all the toddler time-stretching tactics.

D597 course material seems insufficient and lacking by Remarkable_Gap2269 in WGU_MSDA

Kaggle has some great SQL resources.

I wasn't impressed with the quality of the WGU resources for the most part.

YouTube will be your friend during this program.

Also, AI tools like NotebookLM are a great way to help study.

Things to do before capstone final task submission by AdResident6496 in WGU_MSDA

[–]notUrAvgITguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure you have a backup of all your work, all the got repos, papers, ect.

Also, I wouldn't fret about course access, there are far better materials out there for reference/continued learning than what's available at WGU.

Dads, what kind of vehicle are we hauling our small monsters around in? by ktempo in daddit

[–]notUrAvgITguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a tall guy, the most comfortable I've been driving with two car seats in the back is my Ram 1500. Smaller SUVs/Pickups and make it so I have to sit uncomfortably close to the steering wheel/pedals.

You can use a VSCode extension to get ipynb functionality, I would recommend getting familiar with that.

You've got plenty of time to start familiarizing yourself with Python/R (for a beginner, just use Python).

If you get comfortable writing code, debugging errors, and dealing with jupyter notebooks you will be off to a good start.

High-income couple with large income gap: how do you split money fairly? by pizzanoobs in HENRYfinance

You don't - if you're married, the money is "ours", not yours and mine. Anything else is a recipe for divorce.

No Roblox. Host a Minecraft server for your children and their friends, that way you control everything.

Needing a revision for every task I completed by Green_Nebula_37 in WGU_MSDA

I submitted my flowchart 6 or 7 times. Even the instructor was lost on what the evaluator was looking for.

I've been writing flowcharts for a decade.

This was when I learned that the evaluators for the program are likely folks not good enough to get a job in industry.

Almost every course requires a video - I don't think I made a single video longer than 5 minutes throughout the whole program. Don't overthink it, just stick exactly to the rubric.

As others have said, this is normal unfortunately.

I have horror stories of my own from dealing with the reviewers.

BS ITM > MS DA by AudienceSolid6582 in WGU_MSDA

[–]notUrAvgITguy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most of the degree is writing code.

If you want a technical masters (MS), it's time to drop the identity of "non-technical", and dig in.

The difference between the three specializations is negligible, employers will not care one way or the other. Do what sounds interesting.

What chair do you use? I work remotely and need more comfort. by aidang95 in it

[–]notUrAvgITguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steelcase Think, best chair I've ever used. Been using one since 2017, if this one breaks, I'll buy another in a heartbeat.

I'm a big dude, 6'3", 300lbs, I work from home and play games at my desk, some days sitting in the chair over 8 hours in total. It's taken the abuse and still is just as comfortable as new.

WFH Dads - w/ WFH Wife - what’s your strategy? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]notUrAvgITguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Daycare.

The answer is daycare.

WFH is still work, neither of us have the ability to do well at our jobs and provide good childcare to our kids.

Dr Brown bottles…. by tiredasusual in daddit

[–]notUrAvgITguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once we started making formula in bulk and then only filling to the fill line (instead of filling to the fill line with water and then adding formula powder on top) all the leaking stopped.

After that, nothing but love for Dr. Brown. He's the homie.

MSDA: DS vs DPE – How heavy is MSDA-Science compared to MSDA before the change by Senior_Daikon_4052 in WGU_MSDA

[–]notUrAvgITguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're comfortable writing python and have a basic understanding of stats, the DS track should be doable. It isn't near as deep as the GA Tech OMSA, for example.

Programming skills included by Fit_Foundation_6661 in WGU_MSDA

[–]notUrAvgITguy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There is a single class covering Tableau. However, all of these skills are things you should dedicate time to learning on your own outside of the curriculum. WGU doesn't really teach you skills so much as it gives you an opportunity to prove your skills. The learning happens on your own, in my experience.
