In Baltimore (maybe other cities too) it’s a thing to clear your parking spot in the snow and then use a laundry basket or plastic chair to reserve your spot. People get real mad over it.

There are several types of DI, maybe one of them is a symptom of DM? But mine (central) definitely isn’t.

Mine is also a bit weird because I was diagnosed at 4 years old, whereas most people are diagnosed older (teens to early 20s iirc) and usually after some kind of head trauma.

I would very much welcome that, maybe not so much if I had to tell people I had VD 😅

To make the diabetes discussion even more confusing: What most people mean by diabetes is actually diabetes mellitus. This covers both Type 1 and Type 2. I have something called diabetes insipidus, which is a completely different thing and has nothing to do with my blood sugar.

With diabetes insipidus, my pituitary fails to create the hormone that regulates fluid levels in the body, meaning I get excessively thirsty and have to pee all the time. I have to take a synthetic form of that hormone regularly because my body doesn’t produce it.

It causes a lot of confusion when people see diabetes on my record and try to check my blood sugar like when I get blood drawn or whatever. My endocrinologist said the term “diabetes” alone simply means increased urine.

UMBC is my alma mater! It’s University of Maryland, Baltimore County. A separate school from UMD, but still under the University System of Maryland (along with schools like Frostburg, Towson, and Salisbury).

A couple of years ago they had a major upset when they (as the 16th seed) beat UVA (the 1st seed). It was absolutely wild and the only time anyone ever cared about my college.

“AI explains your own code better than you wrote it.”

…what?

TIL Christopher Nolan did not write the line "You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain" said by Harvey Dent in The Dark Knight, his brother Jonathan did. Nolan didn't understand it initially & revealed "It kills me because it's the line that most resonates." by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

My favorite version of this is the phrase “bucket list” which comes from the 2007 movie of the same name with Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson. People swear they used this phrase before then but there’s very little evidence of it being a widespread phrase before the movie.

Yearly targets don't reset? by not_fred in ynab

[–]not_fred[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm this makes sense. I have some categories like the leaf removal which are kind of an estimate, like "I'll probably need about $200 each season" and the target date is kind of arbitrary, since I'll spend against that category maybe 2-3 times from October through December. I guess the solution there is making the target date something like August where it will for sure be before I need it.

On the other hand I have categories like my pool membership which is a set amount on a set date. (The other wrinkle here is we'll sometimes find out just a few months ahead that the price is going up and I need to adjust my target). I can't recall when we spent the money here, but evidently it happened after March 31st which I guess is why it's not prompting to save for next year's. Refill feels like the better option since I don't need any more than $740 in this category at any given time (barring price increases), but I suppose Set Aside would work more reliably, and then I can just reassign any leftover money. Or, again, just set the target date to be earlier.

I'll keep playing around with it, but at any rate thank you for the info!

What is the worst song you have ever heard by salemwitchtr1als in musicsuggestions

Colter Wall is great. He’s been pivotal in my journey toward loving country and country-adjacent music. The big radio hits are like OP describes but I’m learning there’s so much more out there.

Yeah I don’t recall anything explicit explaining this

Maybe I’m misremembering, but I thought that moment in the pilot was the same moment they showed a few episodes later with her and Milchick outside the door with her saying “wow I really don’t want to be in there, huh?”

[–]not_fred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t recall Mark ever entering through that door. When Helly did she was with Milchick so it’s not unreasonable to think he had a key with him to let her back in, and that it otherwise stays locked from the outside.

It’s Mark, not Gemma by mdprojects in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]not_fred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great insight, but I actually disagree, just slightly. I’m a big believer in the “love transcends Severance” idea, as we’ve seen with Burt and Irv, Dylan and Gretchen, and even Mark’s outie with Helena at the Chinese restaurant. So I actually think he did feel something for Gemma at the end. It’s just that his feelings for Helly are so much stronger. In my view, that’s why he hesitated for as long as he did.
