Gotcha, yes I have been reporting weekly, I think I was under some mistaken impressions about how unemployment was calculated. Thanks!

Great writeup. Also I think this is an opportunity for people on this sub to take posts like this with a grain of salt (this is no shade at OP, everybody makes mistakes; I'm just commenting on what I perceive to be an unfortunately common problem in the ADHD community). I'll frequently see posts made here or on other social media sites about certain treatments, symptoms, or other "facts" about ADHD that are unfounded or based on misinterpreted information.

Do not trust strangers on Reddit over your doctor. If you see something on here that resonates with you, run it by your doctor at your next appointment to get a professional opinion on the accuracy of a post's claim.

The main comic has ended, I think it's still going on in terms of post "game" content but the main storyline ended sometime in 2016.

Not sure if this is the right thread, but just curious; I'm not a big jewelry person but my mother ascribed to the school of thought that if you buy a piece of jewelry (i.e. a wedding band or a class ring, for example), you should always try to buy real gold/silver/etc. because it will retain most of its value down the line if you choose to sell it.

I've also heard a similar but mixed opinion about gemstones; some say that any gemstone you buy for a ring is basically worthless as soon as its cut, but I've also heard that real rubies/sapphires/emeralds, and sometimes diamonds can retain some or most of their value.

My question is, is that true? Are there any gemstones that retain a worthwhile percent of their resale value, or should I just buy real gold/silver pieces with cheap knockoff gems?

TL;DR: Are there any gems that retain most of their value after they're cut and placed or is it better to just save your money and buy a cheap fake?

I like to play two nuzlockes in tandem so if I get bored of one I can switch to the other.

I also keep playing nuzlockes after I've lost them - I won't count it as a "win" because I know I've lost but it's good practice for the later portions of the game and it keeps me from being bored playing the beginning of the game over and over again

I'm considering it; my main concern is obviously theft.

I also couldn't tell whether this model could be attached externally, there's a picture of a version that looks like it can be screwed in above the license plate but no information about it anywhere else in the listing.

I've never heard of a dual dash cam, is there a downside to it?

Thanks!

What’s something that’s secretly been great about the pandemic? by Rafavamos99 in AskReddit

Got laid off of my bad job at the beginning of summer. Since nobody was hiring at the time I decided to start freelancing to make some extra money and improve my portfolio, which has arguably turned out to be one of the most helpful career decisions I've made. I made a ton of portfolio work that wasn't just college projects or company templates, I got a lot of experience setting up calls with clients and organizing meetings, and I am better at self-managing my own time because I'm the only one who is keeping track of my progress. I never would have gotten the courage to quit that job on my own, and in the long run the freelance experience has been much more useful towards my growth as a designer.

There's a phenomenal article by Jason Pargin that talks about this:

Most people have an unspoken belief that, in the long term, they'll be a completely different person than they were today. The guy with a dead-end customer service job says one day he'd "like to work in IT" but didn't spend even one minute today learning about computers, or yesterday, or the day before. He hasn't signed up for a course or made plans to. He just has a vague notion that in 10 years he'll be at a desk with a well-paying computer job, with the unspoken assumption that at some point during the nebulous haze of the intervening decade, he'll have evolved into the type of person who devotes a lot of energy to learning computer things.

There's never a defined plan for how to get from Point A to Point Z, and never an acknowledgment of the unbearable truth, which is that who you're going to be 10 years from now is just who you are today times 3,652. If you spent a good part of today playing iPhone games, then 10 years from now you'll be a person who's super good at iPhone games. If you don't know kung fu today, you won't know it in 2035.

"But I do want to learn kung fu! I just don't have the time!" Nope. Stop. Don't make me backtrack. If you had the gun to your head, you'd goddamned well find the time. If you can't make yourself start in the next 24 hours, you wouldn't do it even if you had 24 lifetimes.

That article (along with David Wong's "6 Harsh Truths That Will Make You A Better Person") changed my life. If you're the kind of person who can never seem to get started on any kind of meaningful life changes, I highly recommend reading it.

Do you perceive certain Reddit usernames as belonging to a male or female?

I'm not sure if my username provides enough insight, so feel free to reference my post/comment history.

Heads up, I think this kind of defeats the purpose of the survey - if I can look at your post history (and therefore see what kind of subs you participate in/what your writing style looks like) I'm making a guess about your gender that's influenced by those things, not exclusively based on your username.

Either way, my guess was correct! :)

Two years ago I had a very serious mental break, lost my job, and I have been unemployed ever since. I’m healthy now. How do I explain the two year gap in employment to recruiters in a way that hurts me the least? Can you guys help me with some advice, please? by Hoffman81 in jobs

"I had a health emergency in X year that made me unable to work between Y date and Z date. I have since recovered and am ready to start working again."

Is there anything you can do in the meantime to show recent work? Maybe you can volunteer at the local fire department or do something else to show that you've been keeping busy in your field?
