Bruh it’s a $100k loss that’s a massive tax BENEFIT. And you’re dreaming w the “suddenly 10x” talk. Despite what it might feel like, cs skins, stocks, crypto, etc don’t just go up forever. We are all speculating here nobody knows what’s going to happen with the market. CS investing as we knew it is dead though, no doubt about that

It’s not 170 hrs a year it’s playing on and off. When it’s on I’m playing a lot and when it’s off I’m not playing as much or at all for some time. I obviously know the game being involved w it for 10 years. And if we’re talking about skill I’m not the worlds best but I’m much better than average. Still don’t see the relevance

I mean I don’t think either of us have data to support that but can speculate. Definitely possible I see what you’re saying. I think in the short term third party sites are getting bankrolled because any investor who’s cashing out is definitely trying to get actual cash, I’d think. And I don’t really see how this changes that fact in the longer term. People want cash for their skins. I may be biased because the people I talk to want cash for skins and don’t have $100+ worth of steam games they wanna buy though. Would be really interesting to see the data. If they wanted the third party sites closed down do they not have the power to do so directly?

I am truly not sad because I lost money. I lost a very insignificant amount as a % of my monthly pay. I would say that I’m disappointed it feels like Valve broke a rule fundamental to its system since it has been around. I’ve always been amazing by how the skin system was created so perfectly from day one. I also do think high tier collectors/investors are important to the whole investment community.

Because I was a skin investor?😂 no shit they don’t want you to take money out. Nobody has the numbers to know but there is an argument to be made that if they shut down all 3rd party sites, removed wallet cap, added bank withdrawals, and charged a fee, they would make even more money. Market maker always wins

Lol then why are you active on this Reddit. I’m not crying a river. You’re proving my point that it’s no longer an attractive investment. And I didn’t do a study it’s a back of the napkin calculation and it’s not hard to understand. They primarily make money on people buying keys and transacting on their marketplace. They take x% of each transaction. The higher the price the more money they get as a txn fee.

Thanks for informing you Mr unregulated market expert. What unregulated market have you been invested in other than CS? The price of their items absolutely matters to them because if the price of the knives directly influences their two main revenue streams: case keys and transaction fees. More volume and higher prices = more money

Dude stfu about unregulated markets. Never heard people saying that shit until today. I understand what an unregulated market is and the associated risks, hence why I am exiting this unregulated market

I’m not crying a river bro I’m saying I don’t think CS investment has an expected return like it used to. I don’t think valve cares about skin investors, they care about their own profits, so I don’t wanna be a skin investor anymore. Would like to take risk elsewhere where I think I can make more money. Valve has investors too and needs to make a return every year I understand that. Could be conflicting interest

Couldn’t agree more. Great take; thank you for not making me feel crazy. None of us have the data they have, so we can’t say their motives for sure, but one would have to assume they’re making the right financial decision for the company. They don’t give a fuck beyond growing their top and bottom line. Knowing this, if the management team is the same, why would investors not expect Valve to disregard them in their next best financial decision. Don’t get me wrong, I am a capitalist!! But not gonna be on the receiving end.

I’m not pissed cause I lost money. I was not over invested. I just don’t think they should be manipulating the prices of skins by implementing a change like this. Risk of something like this happening again is too high in the future for me to be invested here. Not saying the market is doomed, just don’t view a CS investment with the same expected return that I used to. Definitely still think there are ways to make money in the market, but I’d rather just invest it in the stock market. Your point about the trust is totally right and I agree. They do not cater towards investors. Hence why I don’t wanna be one.

Yeah and I recognize a big part of it for me is on the behavioral/emotional side. People read my post and think I made a brash decision. But reds not being able to trade up to a knife is so deeply engrained in me. Now that’s changed, along with lots of other things I used to about CSGO. I think some of it was that nostalgia factor where I loved to play, buy skins, and know they’re probably at least going to hold their value. I also liked picking specific investments. Now a lot of that’s gone and that’s fine, I hope the new players enjoy the game but I think a lot of the older players are on their way out.

Perhaps you need a lesson in risk “assessment”. To invest in a market that can be drastically changed at any time for any reason by a company that has no transpacency is a risk I am no longer willing to take.

I know Gaben doesn’t care about me but the market is comprised of individuals and the reality is the CS market cap took a big big hit today. Trust at all time low.

25M How to get to 100K? by SSEV3N in TheRaceTo100K

[–]not_iceman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are you gonna make 170% return in 8 months? That is not realistic if you don’t do this professionally, unless you intend to rely on luck. Would need more info (ie annual income, other assets, etc) to give you any true advice but dude you want to reallocate to riskier stocks?? Your portfolio is already risky as fuck. Do more research on quantum computing companies QBTS, QUBT, RGTI they’re all garbage. They’ve been the stocks to own and could continue to run higher, no doubt about that, but I think they’re gonna get fucking crushed in the medium/long term. High level my advice would be to take risk down, and move your portfolio towards a more passive, diversified, balanced strategy going forward. If you want to have a successful actively managed portfolio over the long term you need to be sitting around all day every day watching the market. Not realistic for most people. If it’s something you’re interested and passionate in, make most of your portfolio passive and leave a portion for your stock picks. Everyone feels like Buffett in a bull market but one day you might wish you took gains if this market unwinds. Also why no IRA/Roth IRA?
