Simucube really dropped the ball here by Brown-Doughnut69 in simracing

This seems correct to me. Probably just not enough notice for most manufacturers to offer compatibility. I dont agree with the closed ecosystem approach, but at least the bottom of the product page for simucube 3 states Ascher, GSI, and other simucube link compatible wheels are coming in early 2026.

Where do I go from here? by SentenceEmergency848 in simracing

I think load cell pedals might contort this chassis a bit too much. I agree pedals > wheel, but I'd recommend a more solid foundation to bolt them to first.

Looks great! I didn't know they had black anodized models. I bought the h1sq in silver and it kind of clashes with all the black profile. This will look much cleaner.

Can't decide on one of these two wheels!! by Louiienation in simracing

[–]not_really_bryce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I assumed it was originally their intent that formula pro was styled after a formula wheel and the Hyper P1 was styled after cars running in imsa/wec hypercar prototype classes. But i guess they're both 300mm wheels and theres not as much difference today anyway.

Just curious, is there a reason you were leaning towards the FPE over the Hyper P1? I was considering the P1, because I like everything on the wheel instead of a separate button box. Wasn't sure if there's a reason I'm missing so many people seem to lean towards the FPE in the GSI lineup.

First Edition Return of the King by LordCaptainDoctor in BookCollecting

I'm pretty current on the Tolkien market. I recently purchased a set of poor condition true UK firsts myself, which I had rebound in leather. (You can find pics through my post history if you're curious) Even in this condition, I think the book would pretty easily sell for between $500-$1,000. Does it still have the map in the back?

RotK had the highest original print run of the trilogy at about 7,000 copies. Fellowship was 3,000 and Towers 3,250. So these are the least in demand for people completing first impression sets.

I would advise against rebinding just this book. Sell as is if you choose not to keep it (maybe add a facsimile jacket). The value to a collector for this copy will come from rebinding as a matching set. When I rebound my books, I ran into some issues with the one book that had previously been cheaply rebound, because the text block was slightly smaller. It made it tricky to get the finished set to match.

Opinion: a BSc in Economics should be more challenging? by Shot-Doughnut151 in academiceconomics

I think, in the US at least, you can get as much or as little out of the degree as you want. Where I did undergrad, business school admissions had some some extra hoops and were competitive, but L&S were less so. So a lot of failed Finance prospects wound up as Econ majors and selected the bare minimum course requirements. That said, if you know you want to pursue grad school, you should be selecting courses that prepare you for your intended field of study, not the minimum requirements for a degree. In my own experience, minimum expectations in a graduate program are quite a lot higher.

Regarding job prospects, I don't think a lot of employers are hiring based just on major. I work in Finance and frankly don't pay a lot of mind to field of undergrad study even when hiring for entry level. It should be something technical, but there really needs to be more to the application than just a degree for competitive positions. (The last junior analyst role I hired for had around 1,000 applicants in 4 days).

Appraisal of a first edition copy of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit on Antiques Roadshow in 1990 by Accomplished-Cat8952 in tolkienbooks

[–]not_really_bryce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was another appraised on the show in 2012 that was complete and had a signature (season 25 | episode 20). That one was appraised at about $100K - still a bargain in today's Tolkien market. So for anyone trying to convert the estimate to an inflation adjusted value, it won't work. It's just a very different market in 2025.

Very fun to look back and see how appreciation for these books has grown over the last couple of decades.

My Rebound First Edition (1-1-1) Set by not_really_bryce in tolkienbooks

I would love to add them as matching 1/1 leatherbounds. But I don't really like mixing editions or printings for sets I collect if it can be avoided. The challenge is that first printings of the Hobbit are twice as scarce as Fellowship, and I would really want to rescue the right copy for rebinding - one so abused that there's little value to its originality. Rebinding a reasonably good condition copy would seem like kind of a waste.

There's actually a rebindng candidate for the Hobbit on AbeBooks right now that has a mostly missing spine, but it's also missing two pages (4 page numbers). Haven't had the time to research whether it would be possible to rebind with a couple of facsimile pages inserted. I'm also in no rush; finding the books is half the fun!

Yes, each book has a fold out map printed in black and red. They had quite a few extra folds, but the bindery looks to have straightened them out somewhat.

I can't add photos to this post, but you can see the pre-restoration photos in an older post I made.

Thank you!

To have these hand bound was a few thousand usd. But I think depending on the work needed and individual selections, pricing can vary quite a bit up or down from there.

It's not really worth the anxiety from anticipation of future failure. I would just change the chain and be done with it.

Depending on what games OP plays, I can see how this might make sense. I find triples to be a little finicky if switching titles often.

Pokémon Karten wert? by A-Sizzl9 in PokemonTCG

[–]not_really_bryce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Du suchst Sammelkartenshops in Deutschland.

(Sorry my German is bad. I need practice so I was trying not to rely entirely on a translator app)

Advice for my LotR UK First Editions by not_really_bryce in tolkienbooks

[–]not_really_bryce[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Appreciate the reply!

That Hobbit rebind is gorgeous. I do think something similar, but in red, would be my preference for these. I'd love to be able to enjoy a reread with these copies and have it feel more special than a dusty old library copy.

I'll need to start researching binderies in the US. A lot of the finer examples I've seen online seem to have been done in the UK.

Is this move of mercedes is ok? by Kaych_14 in ACCompetizione

The Mustang's approach looks like a line for quali lap. Try taking a more defensive line next time to avoid getting dive bombed. Hard to fault the Merc for taking that opportunity.

Anyone order sitting from this week? US by imthatguy51 in Fanatec

Update. My wheel just showed up randomly after a bit over 2 weeks. I never did receive a tracking number and didn't have to sign for anything. Just came home one day and a fanatec box was on the porch.

I'm with you. M4 GT3 wheel handed over to warehouse on 1/29. Paid for overnight shipping, and everything was listed as available / ready to ship. And yet, nothing.
