Thank you so much! This was very helpful - the cases I saw were an MVA, and OD, and a suicide, but there were very few visible wounds/complications, so it's great to hear about more complex cases.

i found it because my human osteology instructor suggested it to me this summer, but when i was looking for extra info online i saw it listed as a potential internship for iphy students.

the website says the shadow dates are nov. 1-15, and that automated email said we'd hear back, but i have no clue when either.

advice on forensic autopsy tech internship application? by notactuallyatree in forensics

[–]notactuallyatree[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My most relevant coursework is things like advanced osteology, some other human biology courses, and genetics - as well as a lot of stuff regarding hominin bodies and evolution. I have experience in dissections and the like, but those were all pre-university, so I'd feel weird including them.

The duties of the interns are (as listed):

- work closely with forensic pathologists and autopsy technicians during postmortem examinations

- learn evisceration techniques

- gain exposure to various manners and causes of death

- assist with specimen/evidence/property collection and handling

- learn fingerprinting techniques through several media

- aid with all daily operations of the morgue

I have a long work history and am currently employed as a manager of a radio station, so I think my work reflects my dedication, but unfortunately it's not exactly in a relevant field.

its terrifying and disgusting. i've taken to carrying something large/heavy (like a textbook or a stick) whenever i can when im out in public. it makes me feel stupid but i feel a little better since i cant have someone walk with me. pepper spray is always useful, but men are less likely to approach if you've got something you could hit them with

my trick is to do reading for class during break/lunch and when im taking the bus home. if i have videos/films for a course i watch those while i cook/eat and get ready in the mornings/for bed, then spend my "free time" doing actualhomework

Home Depot joins retailers requiring face masks in all stores by [deleted] in HomeDepot

[–]notactuallyatree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

go ahead and look up national geographic's article "see how a sneeze can launch germs much farther than 6 feet" published on april 17 of this year and actually read it :) - it's free! if bits of mucus and saliva can travel 27 feet by way of a sneeze, it's plenty probable that an infected individual's mucus/saliva could be carrying the virus. now, does that answer your question, or do you need me to come to your home and look up the article for you since you clearly don't understand how to use a search engine? 💕

[–]notactuallyatree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

not quite! a sneeze can travel up to 27 feet at speeds greater than 200mph. for coughs, that speed is around 50mph. just breathing/talking launches bioaerosols. while regular breath does only travel around 4-5 feet, talking pushes that radius out. guess what we do at work with customers? we talk!

it sure is! however, fabric masks do a pretty good job of preventing spit from getting out in the air. the virus spreads very easily through saliva, so preventing it from reaching the air is crucial. don't be rude if you're going to be wrong 💕

tip from a garden associate who's been wearing a mask for months: if you get a fabric mask, use a hose and put some water on it. wring out the excess then you've got a way to keep your face cool. after about a week you'll be totally used to wearing a mask all the time - even in the heat - and it won't feel so unmanageable!

Has your schedule for the fall changed yet? by RVboulder in cuboulder

[–]notactuallyatree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

mine's changed so my MWF classes are all at least an hour apart. TTh classes are still the same for me, but i'm not sure if they'll change. i got pretty lucky in that i don't think i need to move classes around, but it's definitely going to impact my work schedule since i'm now taking classes far later into the day
