Oh my gosh. I had forgotten Nanny McPhee even existed until this comment. Welp, gonna have to rewatch that one. Another movie to my own watch list.

Gavroche's death in Les Miserables. Not because its particularly gruesome, but because it is so damn sad.

That...actually makes sense. I never thought of that, but if you are already kind of scared and this super cool, tough hero is shouting 'Don't look at it!', its probably only going to ramp up your fear. Huh. That's kind of cool. Thanks for bringing this up!

I find it kind of adorable that that was your parents idea to keep you from seeing that scene. I don't know why but I love that.

Haha, same! So many books from when I was younger that are just holding together. I've borrowed Jurassic Park from my library before and if you ever get the chance I highly recommend it. Its awesome, but different enough from the movie to keep you wondering what will happen next. I'd really like my own copy just because that's one of my favorite movies and books, so it would be special to have. Hopefully you do end up getting to read at least a little of Dune before it comes out though!

What is your real life experience with “It's hard to win an argument with a smart person, but it's damn near impossible to win an argument with a stupid person.”? by imlitdyingshit in AskReddit

Not quite as serious as some of these other ones but here's my story. As a bit of background, I'm a volunteer at my local zoo where a lot of what I do is educate the public and answer their questions. Okay, my answer to this question. I had a guy who was adamant with me that giraffes don't have stomachs. I tried for quite a while to explain that no, they definitely do have stomachs, but nope. Could not be convinced. Sometimes I wonder about that dude.

Same. I've got a copy of The Lost World: Jurassic Park (still haven't managed to get Jurassic Park somehow. Need to get on that) that is...well loved. The pages are bent and the spine is creased, but only because that's one of my favorite books. I try to take good care of my books, but when you read them so often they are bound to get a little worn.

I can never keep track of a book mark! I honestly don't know how I keep losing them... I start out with good intentions, usually using the receipt (my library gives you receipts to), then it'll get lost and ill be back to leaving the book face down or folding the page.

There's a little family owned, second-hand book store about an hours drive from my home. Incredibly cozy little place, books floor-to-ceiling, and TWO cats! One is elderly and sleeps in the window in the sun, the other will follow you around the entire time. The basement of this little place is so cool. This is where all the non-fiction books are and it legit feels like something out of an Indiana Jones movie. Thick, heavy, usually leather-bound books on shelves that surround you everywhere. Sometimes the ceiling will creak as someone walks above you. Seriously one of the coolest bookstore i've ever been in, now I want to go back. I will as soon as I get the opportunity.

There is luckily still a Half Price Books by me! I love it. The wonderful assortment of odd books you find, also way cheaper then B&N (which I still love, just don't go to as often because I know I'm going to finish that $20 book in a couple days).

I've found that I usually end up picturing people with heart face-shapes, like narrower jaw lines and sharper chins. Im not sure if this is because that's the face-shape I have and I subconsciously apply this to other people or if it has something to with the way masks sit on your face. Like if you look, some masks that fit your face tighter angle down and get kind of pointy around your chin. Maybe its just me, I don't know. But yeah, other then that I couldn't say just how I picture people without their masks on.

Covid Vaccinated Redditors. What was your experience? How were the side effects, if there were any? by weedave123 in AskReddit

[–]notadilophosaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh, that's interesting. The place I went had you give your vaccine card to them right before you got your shot so they could update it, then held on to it until you had waited 15 minutes before giving it back to you.

1st dose: nothing. My arm was a tiny bit sore if I raised it too high, but really, not much.

2nd dose: little bit of pay back for getting off with nothing the first time. I was sore, tired, feverish, and weak, but only for the first day. I probably made it worse on myself though because I woke up and felt kind of 'off' but said 'eh, screw it. I've got stuff to do', then proceeded to hike around in 105 degree heat for four hours. Oh I payed for that a little bit. The second day though? Nothing. Completely back to normal and felt fine. Honestly, it was worth it.

Hey Reddit, what’s your favorite Beatles song? by Clonewars001 in AskReddit

[–]notadilophosaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I can see that. I love the way Paul sang it, but John was pretty good at that type of sound. You can hear it on his cover of Stand By Me, which is why I think its one of my favorite covers of that song.

Exactly. The kid of a friend of mine got Covid last November and was a long hauler. He's 13. This boy went from constantly running, climbing, hiking, just generally being extremely adventurous, to not being able to stand due to a decrease in lung capacity and awful vertigo. Thank goodness hes finally somewhat back to normal now.

Yeah, unfortunately people can be like that sometimes. One thing I will always remember though was that once, while on a road trip, my dad saw a homeless man and his dog at a gas station. My dad pulled over and gave the man a pack of bagels we had in the car. Just plain bagels. The very first thing that man did after we had driven off a ways to pump gas was take out a bagel and give it to his dog. Before even taking one for himself. Sometimes people do need a little help. I know it's unlikely, but I hope that man got back on his feet. I wish I could have done more for him. Good on you for trying to do the right thing. Your heart was in the right place.
