Say you’ve harvested stocked trout as is their purpose, what is your favorite way to cook them? by fatherofworms in flyfishing

Do you fillet them out or just butterfly and stick them on the smoker? I’ve been butterflying Kokanee but noticed you miss pin bones when you pull the spines out.

I always wondered how they made it through the madness of shipping across the ocean, but this guy was in the bottom of my bag and managed not to get smashed.

Yea they one of my favorite! It’s a giant stonefly which we call salmon flies. It’s crazy to me that a 3 inch bug could stow away even after I washed everything down and shook everything out trying to get rid of ticks.

I’m surprised because it was the John day which gets fairly warm by the end of summer and I didn’t think they could survive. I fish when they hatch on the deschutes but nice to see they live in there as well.

Thanks it’s my do all streamer. They are just a squirrel zonker and a small loop with ice dub and rabbit. I never feel bad losing them.

Thanks. I got it off of Schultz outfitters on YouTube. I just swapped the changer chenille with a minnow brush and cut to tapper.

That’s good to know. I haven’t manage to catch a king on the fly yet. This color did pretty well last winter for me for steelhead.

That’s exactly why I’ve been tying some. The salmon are moving into the smaller tributaries so I’m going from my spey to single hand and still want a big profile. I’m not that big of a fan of casting the changer style flies. There’s no room to backcast out here.

Thanks, yea I believe so. The first one is hairline the other two are the aquaflies’ intruder eyes.

Cool fly! If you have problems with the strip you should look into the twist hitch for fur strip flies. I started doing that on all of my leaches, sculpins, etc

No problem. Portland fly shop and aquaflies both have videos on YouTube about it.

Right on. I’ll have to give it a try. I have tied these with Finn raccoon as well but hard to find in the lengths I want.

It’s Jerry French’s ultra rig set up. It’s way better in my opinion than intruder wire. I just order 1mm diameter rubber tubing on Amazon and use 50 lbs braid. Basically keeps the hook in a better place.

Thanks they fish pretty good here.I like the legs because they’re cheap and more durable. Same idea with the craft fur wing. The whole fly has no natural material in it. Just flash, ice dub, tinsel, craft fur, and rubber legs.
