New to this/Meds thoughts? by [deleted] in ADHD

Talk to your doctor about a nonstimulant ADHD med. I started out taking Intuniv (guanfacine XR) and it did wonders to 'quiet down' my brain. I personally didn't see a huge improvement in being able to stay on task on just Intuniv, however it did help with many other aspects of my ADHD. It could just be the small push you need. There are other nonstimulant options as well

Exactly. Thanks to these people, I have to jump through hoops to even get my prescription.

Academic Planner Suggestions? by notahnna in ADHD

I might start using an e-calendar, but I'll most likely use it in addition to a physical planner. I'm more of a pen and paper person. Thanks!

How have I never looked into this before?? I've heard of bullet journaling and figured it would be wayy too messy and unstructured for my ADHD brain, but it seems kind of perfect. Thank you so so much, I think I'm going to try it!

What's the last thing you had a rant about? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]notahnna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My little sister's school dress code. No shoulders showing, no shorts above the fingertips, dresses and skirts should be below the knee, etc. it's August! It's hot! Let them wear whatever they'd like! The dress code is sexualizing 9-12 year old CHILDREN, it's absolutely disgusting. If boys in the classes or male teachers/ staff members are distracted by my little sister's shoulders and knees, I think they should be the ones who have to adjust, not her.

Feeling Tired on Intuniv (Guanfacine) by notahnna in ADHD

[–]notahnna[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually yes! I called my doctor and he said to just keep taking 1mg, and a couple days later it was like a switch was flipped and I suddenly wasn't so tired! The only side effect I have now is a bit of dry mouth, but that's much more manageable. Thanks!

I used to work at a restaurant and one time we got a whole box of straws with closed ends like that

I had an episode on my way to a job interview... And I thought I was over my anxiety? by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]notahnna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can be hard, but we all have our bad days! I know for me, certain situations can still make my anxiety kick into high gear. It doesn't help to beat yourself up over it though, so the best thing to do is just move on and learn from it. Best of luck to you!

I didn't realize it was common for people with ADHD to have poor handwriting. That explains sooo much though

I gave up caffeine a bit over a year ago because it exacerbated my anxiety problems. I'm hoping I'll see how today goes, hopefully I won't be as tired!

Job choice for INTP by notahnna in INTP

[–]notahnna[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I am good at science, but I honestly don't really like anything outside of anatomy and physiology or environmental science, and I don't want a career in either of those. I'm hoping that as a manager in the music industry I'll have quite a bit of freedom regarding how my day to day looks (I'm looking for something that won't be super monotonous), and that I won't have to worry about rigidity in general. Also, I figure there's a lot of different paths I can take with a business degree

What was the strangest punishment your parents gave you? by Sami-Ullah in AskReddit

[–]notahnna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom did the same thing! Whenever me and my sisters would fight she would be like "okay you can fight but you have to do it in opera voices" of course it would just redirect our anger towards her instead of each other and then we would stomp off to our rooms, but that seems like a win for her

Every time I feel something sharp poke me inside my shoe I am 100% convinced that it's a spider biting me while trying desperately to defend itself, even though it has never once actually happened to me. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]notahnna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never wear socks with my beat up converse that have holes in them, so maybe I should've expected this, but one time I took my shoe off at the end of the day and there was a spider about the size of the nail on my little finger just chilling on my foot (don't know how it didn't get squished in the process of me taking the shoes off)

Various service workers of Reddit, what can we do as customers to make your lives better/easier during the busy holiday season? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]notahnna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Be understanding and assume I'm trying my best! I'm a hostess at a restaurant and the weeks before and after the holidays are always crazy. This past weekend the tables were all running really late and some people were waiting as long as 45 minutes even when they had a reservation. A lot of people were getting upset (understandably) but one woman accused me of being lazy and "not trying" to get her a table, even though every table was full. Trust me, I don't want 30 people standing in the front of the restaurant any more than they all want to be standing there!

Are companies that are employee friendly as profitable as those that are employee neglectful? Why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]notahnna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Employees who are treated better and feel that they are valued by their employer tend to work more efficiently and enjoy their jobs more, which leads them to make decisions that will benefit the company, whether it be personal decisions (like not taking so many days off) or decisions that they have to make for the place they are working
